This has been a festering sore of a scandal from the day it came out that Dan Morales had attempted to get millions of dollars for a crony of his who, he claimed, worked on the case, but who in fact never dedicated an hours' worth of billable time to it, a lawyer who just wanted in on the huge payoff. The people of Texas got screwed along with the smokers. The major beneficiaries of the tobacco lawsuits were not the people of the states, or children or anyone else, but ambulance chasers. They have now started their shakedown of fast-food providers in their endless campaign of greed. They are shameless parasites on the body politic. Congress lets them get away with it and state governments collude, because the lawyers allow the states to keep a few scraps of what's left.

Congress is mostly made up of lawyers, which is a clear conflict of interst. There is no check and balance on lawyers. There needs to be some equivalant of a citizens review board in each state that has the authority to disbar.
