If it wasn't "instigating", I'd ping a few folks over here

Ping em - would love to see them defend it here in this case

What a terrible thing. So sick.

The only possibly good thing about the whole situation is that it happened in Texas, and not California.

In Texas, they know how to dispose of vermin such as these.

There are people that deny the existence of Satan. He walks the Earth, people!

He lives and breathes through the filth that did this to a BABY!

The time has come to wake up and crush these insects and wipe their filth from the bottoms of our bootheels.

Dammit I get pi$$ed when I see this kind of thing. I could never be a cop.

It's clear - this is what we get from legalizing alcohol. When will this country wise up and resume the War on Alcohol?

Nobody really believes that this was an isolated incident, do they? An abusive situation progressed to this. You can bet that the signs were there and nobody wanted to get involved.

Not a chance. My guess they're going to find more injuries and healed & semi-healed injuries once they examine this poor child's body.

Get a rope.

Baby's death raises questions about child abuse
The death of five-month-old Brianna Lopez in Las Cruces has raised many questions about child abuse in general.

Thursday, July 25, 2002 -- It can be easy to look the other way when we see bad parenting, but his week, we have a stark reminder of why we should step in.

5243 Comanche is the scene of the unspeakable, where Steven and Stephanie Lopez, along with Andy Walters allegedly abused five-month-old Brianna until she died.

The Sheriff's department says the trailer was filthy, its four rooms crowded by nine people.

But Ed Schissel with the State Children, Youth and Families department sas living conditions are not always indicators of child abuse.

Despite the young ages of the parents, Schissel says abusive parents share a different trait - alcohol and drug abuse.

If neighbors know of abuse, the state as a clear message.

In other words, if you see your neighbors acting like the participants on the TV station's own Jerry Springer Show, then rather than offer them a consent form for the media, call the police instead.

OMG

A slow, painful death isn't even enough of a punishment.

It's what we get from allow scum like this off easy in other cases. I mentioned alcohol in the title because it appears it did play some role in the event. Otherwise, I cannot imagine myself how anyone can do this when clear headed...

Your thoughts, please.

On Ms Nixon? She's clueless. She surely thinks she's doing good by working to get more money spent on education but that is just feeding the problem. Someone has to trace the money currently being spent to see where it goes but no one will do that. It's sickening. The taxpayer gets ravaged and it's worse for the kids who are denied an education.

This case shows why citizens should be armed - to apply justice to freaks like these. ANYONE who has sex with a 5 MONTH old, bites her, and kills her does not deserve to be allowed to take advantage of our justice system.

And as several people on another thread argued, the lawyer is obligated to use every trick in the book to get the guy off!

The only thing the lawyer should be getting them off of is a rope.

When Jesus said that it would be better to have a millstone tied around your neck than to hurt one of the little ones.....maybe he was saying you're better off at the bottom of the ocean than to face what the community will do to you. Once upon a time, before cops, lawyers, and Miranda rights.....there were vigilantes who kept the neighborhood livable. Our justice system has removed all fear of community retaliation for heinous crimes. Perhaps that was a mistake.

Kidding? Why no. It's no different than if someone had put "Court documents show parents, uncle had role in death - sick stoned freaks of the day", I am sure many, many people would post, saying things like "Well, they wouldn't have done this if they weren't smoking pot, or crack, or whatever." I am frequently appalled at how many crimes posted on this site involve alcohol, but no one ever says to ban it. So I do - ban alcohol and this crime wouldn't have happened.

Not to excuse them of course - they deserve to be locked up for the rest of their lives. Hopefully we won't have to release them from jail though, to make room for some druggie - or drunkard, if I was to get my way.

These are the cases you hear about, Gramma. It's more the ones we don't hear of that concern me.

If someone could have interceded to prevent the outcome I would have no objections. If that intercession required the death of a perp or two I would have no objection. I would give the benefit of doubt to who interceded with regard what action needed to be taken.

But guilt is not in question when the act is in commission. Determining guilt at a subsequent date is quite a different matter. In the latter case you must rely on witnesses or snitches or what evidence can be gathered by detectives. All can seem reliable but all have been less than reliable.

They all concern and scare and anger me. All of them. Each child, born, pre-born, thinking about being conceived....they all concern me.

If this society cannot protect it's most vulnerable, what right do we have to exist? How DARE we say God Bless America when things like this continue, over and over and over? Sadly, I fear, they'll continue, only more so....

I'm sorry, but you and I totally disagree on the subject of capital punishment. It may not necessarily look like it on this thread, and I know it's improper to bring from one to another, but before today's "other" thread, I don't think I've ever seen you or visa versa.....Anyway, I'm rambling on.

As a society, we DO need to kill these people . The good people, the decent people, need to take it back before it's taken from us. Do I necessarily approve of public execution? Probably not, but that's not on this thread, not yet...(I think).

I'll keep checking this thread, so if you answer and I'm not here.....it's cuz I'm doing housewifeystuffyaknow.
