State hopes to pave way with emissions law Davis says the 'greenhouse gas' bill to be signed today is an 'example for others to follow' By Chris Bowman -- Bee Staff Writer Published 2:15 a.m. PDT Monday, July 22, 2002 Gov. Gray Davis today plans to sign a bill making California the first state to regulate vehicle exhausts linked to global warming -- atmospheric change that threatens to shrink water supplies, raise sea levels and worsen wildfires.

Maybe the next bill they pass will ask people to stop breathing in order to cut back on Carbon Dioxide emissions.I suggest starting with the governor and the California legislature.

Howdy
Insanity! This is unbelievable! Global warming due to atmospheric CO2 is not only unproven, it is very unlikely. Any scientist worthy of the name would be honest about the highly speculative status of the global warming scare.
Gives a whole new meaning to "political science".
If the world is warming of late, look at the prime mover, the sun! We are at a high point in solar output unmatched, if I am not mistaken, for a millenium. Still, NASA'a satelleite measurements of global temperatures indicate that the world is slightly cooler, not warmer.
Every year, three hundred billion tons of CO2 enter our atmosphere from natural sources, humanity contributes about one per cent of the total. In other words, our influence is two orders of magnitude removed from important CO2 sources. To a scientist, usually, an effect two orders of magnitude non dominant in a system is regarded as uninteresting. Make that, to a non politicized scientist.
Not that this matters, the "scientists" pretending to have certain knowledge that the Earth is warming due to human activity have no clue how much heat is retained by virtue of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphpere. That's right, the heat retentive properties of "greenhouse gasses" in the atmosphere are an UNKNOWN!!!!!
They can't account for variations in solar output, can't explain how humaity can contribute significantly to CO2 in the atmosphere, they can not demonstrate that the Earth is warming, and they don't even know how important CO2 is in determining Earth temperatures.
This is pathetic.
I can not say that global warming isn't happening, I can't say that human activity could affect global temperatures, I can only say with certainty that it is very improbable. I can also say with certainty that any "scientist" who claims certain knowledge of global warming is a damnable liar.
Last year, fewer children died on the highway than in any year in recent memory. Why? The SUV's are far more survivable in collisions than yugos. So here come the liberals, with pure speculation and hyperbole, to do what liberals do best.
Fill body bags with innocent children.
Shame on you gray davis.

What wold happen is the Big Three
took the "Atlas Shrugged" idea and said Screw You!! I guess all that could be sold in Cal. would be little puddle jumbers from Japan.

Gov. Gray Davis to sign Strict Emissions Law = Gov. Gray Davis to sign Own Political Death Warrant I hope this equation is right.
I heard a discussion about the reason for Davis signing this bill. It was to get the "Green" vote and not have the "Greenies" spoil the election(like they Ralph Nader allegedly took votes from Gore in Florida in 2000).

I can see it now. Someone driving their Chevy Astro, transporting more than three packs of smokes into Cally, will get ten to life.
But then again, it's gonna be kinda hard to bring in illegals while driving the mandated Yugo - eh?

81 percent of Californians favor the bill. Looks like the sheeple have been brainwashed well. They will give up their beloved SUV if they're told its "for the environment" or "for the children."

There was a former California legislator on C-SPAN this morning. I believe that he was a Republican. He said that the legislators in CA get free cars (paid for by the taxpayers). There was a bill introduced to force them to electric cars and the DemocRATs voted it down. They all chose SUV's.

Just like their Washington counterparts they don't apply the laws they write to themselves.

I don't think so. First, the polling might be biased. Second, they think it will be their neighbors who will bear the effects of this law.

Watching the so called Fair and Balanced report on Britt Humes show you would think this is a good bill. They called it a reduction in Globel warming. I thought I was watching Brian Williams. Where is the balance???
To: jdontom
OK, What is the objective here? To reduce global warming, right? Let's suppose the enviro socialists achieve their goal and rid the planet of the internal combustion engine. One of two things is going to happen: 1) Global warming will cease and the earth will begin to cool. With this scenerio, to the enviro-socialists, the sky will be falling because we will be heading for another ice age. (I recall a fear of this in the '70's) 2) The earth will continue to warm and they will realize that the ICE had no bearing on the global warming after all. Doesn't it stand to reason that the earth would be warming since all evidence points to the fact that we are now coming out of an ice age of I don't know how many thousands of years ago? Besides, what is so bad about global warming? This means longer growing seasons and don't worry about the flooding...warmer weather means more evaporation into the atmosphere and more rain for the longer growing season. I am so pissed I could just spit...all we can do is stand back and watch this state implode.
To: G. Chapman
I'm sure the poll was conducted in a largely liberal enclave. No one I know has been polled on this. It'll be very typical of Doofus to sign it in the wee hours of a weekend morning.

**But then again, it's gonna be kinda hard to bring in illegals while driving the mandated Yugo - eh? **
lol...I saw a Yugo on the road today. Scary...very scary.
To: goldstategop
The 81% is most likely from some liberal enclave...not speaking for the greater California population.

The auto makers have an huge ace in the hole here if they will just have the guts and courage to play it! Davis and the liberals are betting they never would. The presidents of GM, Ford, ect... need to have a conference call which goes something like this: California stops this garbage or we pull every single one of our dealerships out of the state by 2009. Period. Call a press conference. Stand united, and tell the California wackos to ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
