What can we say about Bill Simon, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in California? He makes every mistake, and then some. In November, we can write a postmortem on why Mr. Simon lost to Gov. Gray Davis. Or we can go public now, hoping someone will fix the mess.

The one thing that is not "fixable" is the candidate himself. He's going down Gophack, get used to it. Buy him a drink at the bar on election night. I warned you guys, but you simply didn't listen. Cheers.
No, he will not.
You, of all people, surprise me. You love to look at numbers. Why would you dismiss so many polls showing Simon ahead? I'm not saying Simon will win, but I darned sure think he can. Davis' re-elect numbers are horrible!
An interesting site for a quick look at who's running and who's the general favorite. Unfortunately the site is down right now, but here's the link.
The fact is, it's summer and the people aren't interested in politics.
No one is focused on the election until after Labor Day.
All the political pundits said Simon couldn't win the primary because he didn't get on tv first, he didn't define Riordan, he didn't do this, he did do that, etc., etc. Even some conservatives thought he should go on tv in December. I'm glad he has smart consultants that saw that as a complete WASTE OF MONEY.
Simon's polls show him up by 8, the notoriously inaccurate Field Poll (that said Kathleen Brown was going to be governor in 1994) has Davis up by only 7 (his lead was cut in half from the previous Field Poll.) It's a close election, but the election isn't NOW.
Go Simon!
No, it won't. The election will just be kicking into gear. We here on FR and as Republican activists tend to follow politics on a daily basis, 365 days a year. Most people don't do that. Most people wait until their sample ballots or the ballot pamphlet goes out (late September) before they even start focusing.
It's where the candidates are on October 1st that will have more impact on the election than where they are today in mid-July.
Gotcha.
Like any prediction, it could be wrong.
No offense, but I sure hope so!
First of all you are wrong... there are people working hard - moderates AND conservatives statewide. I would hope instead of your acidic whining and complaining you would go out there and work with your fellow FRee Americans and see that. It might open your eyes.
Second of all Simon keeps kicking Davis' butt on issue after issue! No wonder he is ahead in all of the polls. Now stop whining and start working!
So sorry your candidate didn't win. Perhaps it is time to put your grudges behind you.
Have you participated in any of the rallies for "the cause?"
* The anti-SUV ones?
* The anti-tax increase one?
* The FReeps of Gray Davis for his campaign fraud/financing?
There is plenty to do and I hope those who are negative and backstreet driving are getting out in the trenches and making a difference. I LOVE SIMON!
