DAVIS SIGNALS PLAN TO SIGN SUV LEGISLATION
THE RUSH LIMBAUGH SHOW | M. Garrett

Posted on 07/08/2002 12:02:33 PM PDT by MattGarrett

Rush Limbaugh read a story today which states that Gray Davis plans to sign the SUV Tax Bill. AB 1493 (formerly known as AB 1058) will give California Air Resources Board the go ahead to work on ways to reduce "greenhouse gases." In one report CARB authored, they suggested the per mile tax, gas tax increase and SUV tax. Proponents of the bill are quick to argue that this bill does not raise taxes and CARB does not have the authority to enact any of their suggestions.

The bill will affix a tax of 2 cents for every mile driven in an SUV, MiniVan or truck, 50 extra cents per gallon of gasoline, and $3500 on all SUV, Minivan, or truck purchases.

Politicians pulled a dirty trick and changed the bill number, reinstating AB 1058 as AB 1493 late on a Friday night. They ran it through the legislature and passed it a Monday afternoon - with no comment from the public.

Stating that the bill creates the perfect balance between driver choice and responsible environmental policy, Davis indicated his intention to sign the bill.

Contact Gov. Davis at 1-800-988-2588 or email him at governor@governor.ca.gov to let him know this is bad tax policy plain and simple.

Rush also stated that 48% of the vehicles on CA roads are SUV's, looks like Davis will put the final nail in his own coffin.

The rats don't realize that we drive SUV's to protect - gasp - THE CHILDREN (tm). This is going to bite them Big Time if it ever comes to pass. From their own victim book, too.

Now Californians have the "choice" to drive a mini van, truck or SUV and pay added taxes or not. That's a choice to Gov. Howdy Doody. Hopefully Californians will take advantage of a real choice come election day.

This sounds totally bogus to me.

How are they going to tax mileage? Random odometer checks with bills handed out on the spot?

Who is going to determine, at the pump, what type of vehicle the gasoline is being pumped into?

How will gas pumps be modified to handle varying price scales for the same type of gasoline?

I’m not buying any of this.

The soccer moms who drive the SUVs vote against their own husband's paycheck in election after election. Their husbands either cannot reach them politically or have given up. My guess is that if the bill is enacted it will enrage the men but the women who drive SUVs will continue to yawn and pull the lever for Davis over abortion.

I understand why the law would have an evil aspect, but if it gets rid of most of the SUV's, then it can't be all that bad... The road is overrun with them, not to mention their brainless, dangerous drivers. At least CA roads are built to handle them. CT roads are not.

Hell, lets send him emails that as conservatives, we want him to sign this bill and po every SUV driver in Kalifornia.

Signing that bill is a winner for Simon and a big loser for Davis.

Rats hate SUV's as part of their liberal dogma. His biggest nest of Rats in the San Francisco and LA areas hate SUVs, so this vote will appeal to them. Of course they are in his pocket anyway.

He could lose hundreds of thousands of voters who drive SUV's if he signs this bill. Which I hope that he does!

Then we can all put on bumper stickers, SAVE YOUR SUV - DUMP DAVIS!

If he doesn't sign it, he will lose the votes of the watermelons: (Dump Gray/Vote Green link)

Nah, its not a good law. Sorry. CA rds are built for street legal motor vehicles. An SUV fits that profile.

Wouldn't it be relatively easy to install a type of "governor" device into the odometer of cars that would track this sort of information? I don't know, just asking.

They will make it mandatory and it will drive up the price of SUVS. Then, of course, when it is found to be full of flaws they government will sell you the "fix."

Hey! It is not very nice to point out the fact that most SUV drivers drive as though traffic laws do not apply to them.

Guess I won't be taking any more vacations in California. Not even in my little 30+ MPG SUV. Not with policies like that in effect. (And not to mention the "agricultural" inspection stations at every big entry into the state.)

collect a tax on every mile driven

Vehicles have to be inspected as a condition of continued registration. Mileage will be recorded.
