Oh sure! Balance the city's budget on the backs of the smokers!
Sure, it only hurts 1 out of 4 of your constituents, Mayor RINO BLOOMBERG!

Seven bucks a pack, eh? Man,oh,man you can hear the champagne corks going off in the Mafia HQ.

Isn't this awful? Didn't they learn anything from alcohol prohibition?
And the black market is starting to boom. This is just a horrible tax increase for the adults in New York City who choose to smoke.
And Bloomberg is a CONSERVATIVE. Go figure.

Great now the blackmarket cigarette running that terrorists have been doing in the South can now be done in NYC. Thank you Mayor Bloomberg! Your financing Al Qaeda! I can't believe my only choice was to vote for this idiot.
I guess I will use Indian Reservations to buy cigarettes now. This is really going to hurt the Bodega owners.

And Bloomberg is a CONSERVATIVE. Go figure. Uh, no he's not. Mayor Pothead was a Democrat until he got the bug to run for Mayor and didn't want to run in the Primary. The only conservative that was in the mayoral race was Herman Badillo. He was beated by Bloomberg's billions in the Republican Primary.
Bloomberg is a RINO.

"If it were totally up to me, I would raise the cigarette tax so high the revenues from it would go to zero," said the mayor, who has said he hopes that the higher taxes will persuade smokers to quit and will prevent children from becoming smokers. Did you read what he said? He sure is a jerk.
Thanks for the brief history. He was elected during the aftermath of 9-11, so I surely didn't know much about it.
I am in Maine, but this is WAY to close to Maine. I am afraid this will rub off.
Audrey Silk should have addressed Bloomberg as "Mayor One- Termer."

I have been getting cigarettes delivered for a while now from a NY Indian Tribe. Even switched brands to the Indian brand Seneca for 15 bucks a carton. I really can not see how this can help raise revenues when people are just going to buy cigarettes elsewhere.
Funny thing about the Seneca Indians. I recently found out i have part Senaca blood. My mother was given up as a baby and her birth mom was half Indian. I don't even know if my mother knew this. She died in 1989. One of my cousins told me that if you can prove 25 % part Indian that your Indian. Have you ever heard this before? Needless to say now I know why I have high cheekbones!!!

Even before the new tax increase government made more off a pack of smokes than the maker of the cigarettes.

25% is enough for most tribes, I think. I do know from looking at Census data that the number of American Indians has increased far beyond the natural rate of increase for the size of their population in 1970, for example. In economic terms, that means it's more profitable to identify oneself as an Indian.

My parents get cigarettes from yessmoke.com. After S+H, it comes to about $18.50/Carton for Marlboro. I would highly recommend yessmoke to any looking to reduce the cost of smoking.
Downside -- you are only allowed 5 cartons per month, or else they go through customs (roughly 1.5 packs a day).

"This may be the most important measure my administration takes to save people's lives" Un-effing-believable! In Iowa, $3.50-$4.00 per pack was enough to make me quit...(paying taxes, that is.)
