FIRST STRIKE: After five days of "positive" ads, Gov. Gray Davis unleashed the first in what will likely be a series of attack ads on Republican opponent Bill Simon -- and with good reason.
There's a new poll floating around Sacramento that shows the embattled Davis trailing Simon by a whopping eight points.

This thing is gonna get NASTY!I just saw Davis' hit piece on Simon. Nasty is an understatement. I'm not sure which is worse, the nausea it caused or the spinning headache. Time to break out the crucifixes and holy water.......

"I'm frankly surprised that the dems released this one." It's called a 'shock' poll, and don't get too complacent, it could be garbage.
Keep working for Simon!

This is good news. But I think back to the infamous 2000 election. G.W. was way ahead of Algore in the summer and Algore came up from behind and .... we know ... Algore nearly stole the election ...Gore didn't come from behind. It was Democratic inner-city vote fraud to the tune of at least 5 million votes. More votes were cast in Philly than there were voters.

So when was the last time California actually elected a Republican governor? Wouldn't that have been George Deukmejian?
No, the governor before Davis, one Pete Smith, was a Republican. Deukmejian was governor before Smith.

Davis has Simon Attack Ads now on many of the cable channels here in SoCal!

We have enviral whackos outside of Walmart, Home Depot, Target and other stores all the time with petitions trying to drive out people to make room for critters. Maybe they will be glad to distribute for free some of these: Yes, and you also have good conservatives going in and out of the stores ... maybe some would like the dump Davis stickers!

There is a gap in your table of 1986 to 1990!
Who was Governor then?

Believe it or not, Aptos had quite a few Bush voters! A lot of those people hanging out in their $750,000 palaces aren't exactly torch carrying Trotskyites. The demographic is more like traditional conservative retirees, and libertarian leaning nouveau riche who are consistently anti-taxation.
If the Republican Party of California wanted to get it's head out of it's collective butt, they could win again. Even in places like SCruz county.

Simon needs to start NOW limited funds or not.I respectfully disagree. No one in the general public is paying attention to the election. Trust me on this. The only ones who care are the state workers because they are worried about the budget (and their salaries), those of us patriots who care all the time, and the political pundits in the media. That's it. The average person just isn't paying attention to the election. Davis is wasting his money, but he has no other choice. His negatives are higher than Clinton's ever were, and he doesn't have Clinton's charm (gag me!)
Campaigning now is a severe waste of money, and you get the benefit of pennies for every dollar you spend.
Davis is making big mistakes because he thinks he's invulnerable. Let him sink. If his negatives start to go down before the summer is out, I might change my opinion. So far, they only continue to go up.
Dump Davis!

The poll ... of likely voters ... by the ... Service Employees International Union ... Simon at 42 percent to Davis' 34 percent. Green Party candidate Peter Camejo came in with 5 percent.
... Only 34 percent of those surveyed gave Davis a thumbs-up -- and 64 percent turned thumbs down. Great news! (finally! The liberal news may now stop citing the late April -- before the Oracle scandal -- Field poll of 546 Californians.)
Any mention of this SEIU poll elsewhere, perhaps with info on the sample size and how they defined "likely voters?"

I wish you had Simon's ear and could transfer your passion to his campaign. As scummy as Clinton-Gore was in 1992, they did run a "good" campaign.
To: Gophack
"Pete Wilson. RINO."
I'll take Pete Wilson over any DEM. Remember Pete Wilson vetoed any stupid gun law coming to his desk. You can't say that for any DEM, can you?

It was Democratic inner-city vote fraud to the tune of at least 5 million votes. In 2000, Bush most likely won the legal popular vote. I'm bothered how we are so apathetic about guarding our votes and not prosecuting people who commit voter fraud.

The Laker Game is over so I can respond now. Simon indeed might be wasting money by beginning his campaign too early. But Davis has begun the game and if Simon stays out too long he won't be able to spend enough to overcome the lies told about him. He can't afford to wait until "nice guy" ads become useless in the face of his media-supported distorted image of EVIL BUSINESSMAN!
To: NEWwoman
I have offered my "talents" (such as they are) to the Simon campaign....over 6 months ago! They seemed happy to hear from me but never called back. I am a newspaper editorial cartoonist and could give them much insight into the mind of the ED boards of most local media. They certainly haven't been WOWING them in the newsrooms lately. Too bad.
To: Gophack
Thanks, I don't know how that double post happened?
System has been slow here!
To: ElkGroveDan
Don't forget, the polls don't account for Democrat vote fraud.
Tha eight point lead will be shaved by at least five percent due to Democrat vote fraud.
Republicans, keep up the pressure!
