I am watching President Bush giving a speech on CNN telling us he is expanding federal government more than any Democrat since Truman.

Then never dial 911. Don't stop at red lights.(there for your protection)

That protection is provided precisely from where it ought to come, the LOCALITY and the STATE, not the stoopid, waste-every-dollar-they-see, never end a worthless program but create another and another to duplicate, etc., etc., etc., FEDERAL bureaucracy!

Bush and his henchmen in the Justice Department are busy installing the trappings of a police state -- the mechanism of our future oppression ...

ROFL! These paranoid delusional scenarios just get funnier by the minute.

Oooh a new cabinet guy and his secretary. Gosh that's major. And the money Card refered to had already been approved for national security improvements.

Since the creation of the Department of Education in 1978, test scores have been in decline.

And the states have been setting standards (or not) for all but one of those years. What's your point?

You want a symbolic resignation so you can feel good? What's the point of that?

I can't quite sympathize with the concern here.

Talk to some innocent citizens after the Feds have knocked down their door.

Combining a law enforcement function with intelligence services is risky business and is fraught with the potential to supress the very liberty it seeks to protect. The CIA did not have "domestic powers" for a reason. There is no legitimate reason that these two agencies could not have "communicated" more effectively prior top 9-11.

Outside of our borders. It's a CIA vs FBI thing. DOD runs the military who's job is to invade other countries and defend our from invasion. Terrorists don't do that invasion stuff, it's not their style. Bush didn't pick this fight, but it is his job, as specifically outlined in the constitution, to win it. If you've got better ideas pony up. But all I see is whining.

I just posted the following on another thread but I thought it might be of interest to some on this thread.
------------------

Many of you might be surprised to learn that a Cabinet level position was the intent long before September 11. The US Commission on National Security/21 Century recommended it over a year ago.

See this article

Here is a link to the Commission's homepage. http://www.nssg.gov I believe the Cabinet level position is recommended in the third report.

Also, some of you might find my recent post on the Commission of interest. It is here. Post #52 (second one down).
