[history]
March 16, 2002 -- A cell phone became a lifeline yesterday for a 14-year-old Brooklyn girl who was abducted off the subway, raped on a rooftop and held captive until cops dialed her number, figured out where she was, and rescued her.

Too bad that she was raped but at least this story has a happy ending.

I grew up in that neighborhood in the 50s and 60s. Stillwell Ave, Mermaid, etc., and I used to go to the movies on Surf Ave (the old RKO--saw a lot of John Wayne flicks there).
How sad. Thank G-d they got the guy.

I thought this was going to be a case where the cops contacted the cell phone company and they managed to triangulate her position based on the phone signal. It's hard to believe that the rapist let her answer the phone and talk, but I guess it's true that most criminals aren't society's brightest people.

and hailed a livery cab to... What's a livery cab? Is it liver colored, checkered, yellow?

Felons have IQs between 90 and 100. The exceptions fall outside that range.

In NYC, "livery" cabs are usually owned by the drivers, are unlicensed and go where the yellows fear to tread.

Very inspirational. I only wish Dad could have caught up with him before the cops did, and cut his balls off! But then, Dad would be the one in jail, and Al, Jessee, and Co. would be howling!

I know they caught the guy, but has anyone check to see if Bill Clinton was in town?

Of course if she had a .38 in her purse she could have shot him and walked home.
To: Pharmboy
I just wish they had shot the S.O.B. trying to escape.
Since they didn't, I think they should just let him go. Only they need to let him go at night and announce ahead of time when and where they will release him. If they hear any shots they should just ignore them.
I've got a 14 year old daughter. I don't like rapists, especially ones who pick on 14 year old girls. Can you tell?
To: xm177e2
The rapist let her keep her cell phone????? And let her talk on it???
To: Centurion2000
Good point.
My daughter has been using guns since she was 6 years old. We keep a shot gun at home for security and she is well trained in using it. I hadn't considered signing her up for a concealed carry permit.
Does anyone know if minors can get concealed carry permits in Texas?
To: DouglasKC
He even took her to get something to eat ---he was probably a real dumb guy and just thought he got a girlfriend.

You have to be 21 to get a concealed carry in Texas.
