Big News. But no one seems to be discussing it.

It's huge, and the AG needs wide latitude to eliminate the lackeys, dimwits, clock-watchers, and flagrant violaters. I say bravo.

...sent a letter to Congress today asking lawmakers to give the agency authority to fire people for misconduct or incompetence. I'll believe it when I see it. No one was fired for this, that's probably why not too many people are talking about it. Govt. worker = incompetence now days. Same O', Same O'.

Ought to disband the agency and shoot its leaders but I'm just a typical middle class white guy.

Mr. Ashcroft said that "it is essential that I have the authority to quickly discipline or terminate individuals for acts of negligenceIt appears AG Ashcroft can move quickly. Good. But he ought to 'discipline or terminate' himself for negligence, as he allows the criminals at Loral to walk away in the matter of missle guidance technology transfers to the Chinese while fining the shareholders $millions.
When he is done with his self-discipline for that, assuming he did not terminate himself, he can discipline himself again for failing to seek justice for the lynx fur hoax or the back-dated BIA documents.
He remains a disgrace.

Did anyone see the 60 Minutes piece last week....are any of these "reassigned" people ones who were discussed on that program?

BUT WAS ANYONE FIRED? So, they rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic. If no one got fired, they didn't really mean it. Per the screen name of one of the FR posters, if there are not "heads on pikes," the message was not sent to the beauracracy in general that people who are dumb as a box of rocks should be seeking employment elsewhere than in OUR GOVERNMENT.
We're waiting....

"Approaching the Heliopause from 1776." Next is, "The Truman Factor."

The INS should be rebuilt and restructured from the bottom up. There should be two agencies formed from the existing incarnation, with significant increases in the workforce. One agency would be strictly for legal immigration and naturlization, and a second to handle illegal immigration and border enforcement efforts, as it relates to homeland security issues. It can be done. If more aggressive force is required, bring in additional military assistence for tactical support.
America's at war. This is no time to be screwing around. Let's do the right thing.

Removed, fired, whatever. What this amounts to is a few peons getting disciplined for a clerical error. Did anyone die? Did any major property damage occur?
What I want to know, where's the investigation into the biggest intelligence failure in US history? Why aren't any heads rolling for 9-11?

4 Top Officials on Immigration Are Replaced
Very cool.
I'm pleased to see that Dubya's oath to "smoke 'em out, get 'em on the run" and to
take care of the scoundrels also applies to some govenmental incompetents.

I didn't notice them mentioning from what administration these officials were hired under.
I think I recall from another article somewhere that at least one of them was hired by Clinton Administration.

Someone should tell Mr. Ashcroft that there are many in DOJ/FBI that need firing. He wont do it, not a soul will be fired.

The old "shuffle them around" routine. Just keep moving until people loose interest.

It's not news, it's smoke and mirrors.
The movement of these four individuals was planned before the "visa" incident, Ziggler is just moving up the reorganization timetable for these positions. These individuals are being reassigned as per a reorganization that was implemented last year, and is being used to appease the public over the "visa" incident.
