Tonight twenty or so FReepers and patriots congregated on the south-west corner of Blackstone and Shaw to see if the peaceniks would once again dare to show their faces on their regular corner and this time we met a group that appeared to be the same size or slightly smaller than ours. None of the peaceniks ventured across the street tonight though, unlike last weekend. They just put in their time and then left fifteen minutes before they usually do. We stayed until we were sure the last of them had driven off before we headed for a late dinner or home.
The peaceniks held a few new signs tonight that I hadn't seen before. One said, "Spend our tax money feeding America's poor - not killing innocent children". The other said, "Killing children is a crime we cannot tolerate". They are completely unconcerned about the innocent Americans killed by the terrorists on September 11th.
It was a chilly forty-six degrees out there tonight and very windy. Ann's cookies gave us energy to beat off the cold. Thanks, Ann!
FReepers attending tonight were:
Thanks for all who joined our group tonight! If you couldn't make it, we missed you!
Yes Bunny, we know you are with us and how much you would like to be with us in person. And we appreciate it so much. :-)
It would be so nice if you and Fall Guy could join us one of these times. JustAmy and I are thinking about trying to get a FReeper group together sometime in August for a barbeque or picnic in Fresno. It would be wonderful to have FReepers come from far and wide to rally for our troops with Robinsons on Friday and then get together for a picnic on Saturday. Wouldn't that be fun?
Thanks for adding your photos, Amy. :-)
SLJP - "American Children Bleed Too!" The only problem with this is that last week I mentioned to the peacenik who came to our corner to scream and cry about Afghani children who have lost their lives that I wondered why she was not concerned about the American children who were killed on September 11th. Her only reply was that "there weren't too many children in the World Trade Center that day". She said that the children being killed in Afghanistan were all innocent. My reply was that all of the people killed in America on Sept 11th were innocent. You just can't reason with these people.
twyn1 - I am certain that you are right, these peaceniks are all probably crying about Andrea Yates being found guilty, for cold bloodedly killing her children.
AFVetGal and OhioWfan - And here again, even without asking them, I feel certain that these peaceniks would all be pro-abortion, wanting to give a woman a right to kill her unborn children if she so chooses. What insanity!
SLJP and Diver Dave - We'll be looking for you next Friday!
SLJP and Diver Dave - We'll be looking for you next Friday! LOL!
Diver Dave, I am glad that you are taking a few much deserved weekends off from FReeping, but if you get to missing your weekly FReeps in Modesto (because I know how addicting it can be), we would love having you join us!
I know you can't make it SLJP, but we would sure love having you FReep along side us. You have been one of our more faithful supporters and we appreciate you!
...GRRRRRRREAT!!!
Hi, fuzzy. Saw ya munchin' those cookies. : )
Thanks for bring this to my attention, JustAmy. I missed this morning because it was titled "Set an Example". Sheish! I just have to share the letter with all of the other FReepers who are reading this thread:
Some "patriots" have attempted to label the few who openly oppose a military response to the terrorist acts of Sept. 11 as un-American. This reckless labeling serves to intimidate, isolate, and threaten those who choose not to view justice in the terms of an eye for an eye.
One can be a good and proud American while disagreeing wholeheartedly with war, in any context. What if America set an example highlighted not by revenge, but by a series of nonviolent steps intended to bring justice through peace? These steps could include:
An immediate end to the sponsoring of covert military actions, we have trained and supported Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.
An increase of foreign aid that concentrates money in low-income communities.
Walking, running, riding a bike or taking advantag of public transportation on a regular basis. These methods of getting around will reduce our dependency on oil and contribute to efforts to clean up the Valley's air.
Attending events that present ideas for alternatives to war. (I am going to leave out their plug for the rally they have planned for today.)
An estimated 700-800 innocent civilians have died in Afghanistan and 7-8 million are on the verge of starvation. Is this acceptable?
See what we are up against guys? These guys are so full of baloney! What they are saying is that we shouldn't attack the terrorists militarily, but that we should instead create a world court, increase foreign aid, walk, run, or ride our bikes, and everything will be hunky dory!
Good grief!
I'll be sure to visit a Fresno Freep when I'm out there in the future.
Keep up the work, the public and I love it. ES
I'll publish it here first, and if you all want to "adopt" it, then you are absolutely welcome to do so! Did anyone shoot a letter off to the Bee the last time? I'd love to read that one before I write another, if it's on one of these threads!
I will try to have it written and posted here in three days -- tops! I want those morons stung right back!
Thank you.
Hi, fuzzy. Saw ya munchin' those cookies. : )
Well, as you know, that's why I went. ;-)
No I am sorry to say. We all meant to but it just didn't get done. Since you have a way with words, I will be appreciative of any help you can throw our way. Thanks in advance, FReeper "sis"!
And these people are on the verge of starvation even though we have dropped food supplies to help feed the Afghanistan people, because their government lies and says that we have poisoned the food and then the people are afraid to eat it. If the leaders of that country were principally interested in the welfare of their people, they would welcome the food that we have donated and encourage their people to eat it.
