Well I'm mad and I'm angry, and maybe that's why I can't think of an appropriate response. While all of us were prasing him for how he was dealing with the war on terror, Bush passes this Amnesty Bill, something that not even the sneaky Bill Clinton would do. This is one of the worse Bills to pass through Congress, it will hurt us in many ways, and ten years from now we will still be feeling it's effects.
Bush has, without a doubt in my mind, sold us out for the Hispanic vote. He sold us out because he can take our vote for granted (who will we vote for Al Gore?). Is he wrong? What do we do when the Republicans stop looking out for our interests? Is it time for a new party, or do we work within the party and try to root out the Republicans In Name Only (of which there are many)?
Or stay with the incrementalism and arrive at the same destination eventually.
Why would he banned from complaining about anything Algore does? I voted for Bush and I feel I have the right to complain about his amnesty bill. (and yes, it IS an amnesty bill no matter how you try to sugarcoat it)
The only time someone should be "banned" from complaining (or, more correctly, should not be taken seriously when they DO complain) is if they did not bother to vote at all.
Even worse: the citizens who are natualized this way will never have deep resspect for our laws, for the fundations of this nation. It is like becoming a priest by stealing papers confirming that one is ordaned; like staring an honest life by lying. That does not work.
As for the other comment, I would prefer to work from within the party: starting a new party is harder than starting a business, and building up even the latter takes time. The party is what it stands for, not its name. Look what happened to Democrats: is this the part of even John Kennedy? Similarly, for Republicans: we've got to make it work and make it more inclusive.
P.S. Incidentally, I do not think Bush was so simplistic and did that to buy Spanish-speaking voters. There is a broader audience addressed here --- all those who sympathize with them.
Go to the Tancredo doubts he can block amnesty-extension bill thread. There are a lot of people (myself included) that feel the same way as you.
"Just say NO to amnesty"
We should seriously begin fielding our own candidates. From Free Republic, that is.
I seriously considered a run for the House last year, probably the cheapest campaign in memory but some good people told me that the strategy was brilliant. In the end, I decided it wasn't the right time. Better to spend a bit more time in the real world, picking up whatever experience would be useful if God did want me there someday.
That said, I pray constantly that someone (or a bunch of someones) from FR would take up the challenge of running for office.
Learn to speak spanish, gringo!
Thank you! I, too, have read the bill in its entirety and it is indeed NOT an amnesty bill. It truly isn't.
I agree with the gist of what you wrote 10000%, but that last comment was over the top.
I couldn't agree more. The Clinton years were bad, though, considering the whole impeachment ordeal, his incompetent cabinet, Madeline Halfbright, Janet Reno, etc.
But I must say that, with the exception of Donald Rumsfeld, I am not at all impressed with Bush's cabinet....Colin "wear a condom" Powell and John "no racial profiling for potential terrorists" Ashcroft. The Bush administration has been a huge disappointment for me.....and because of this amnesty ordeal, I am inclined to say that the Bush administration isn't any better than the Clinton administration was.
I honestly believe that if President Bush wanted all the millions of illegals deported or was totally against this insane amnesty, almost every single Bush supporter on this great forum would agree with him.
Well, I was a Bush supporter, but no longer. I think you'll find many on FR that did vote and support him in 2000 no longer do support him thanks to this insane asylum he is wanting to give illegals.
In my opinion, something is very wrong with this picture.
Indeed. And those same people would all of a sudden be against this amnesty bill if Bush also had a sudden change of heart. Those are your tin-foil variety and I equate them with "sheeple".
Build even more factories in Mexico. Get filthy rich on the economic explosion that would result.
The three hundred million of us already here would have to work harder to help them become good Americans. It's kinda like the drug war. Can't win it. We should just go around it.
The culture of Mexico is irrelevant. The only reason immigrants weaken our nation is if they are able to get free money through income redistribution.
Stop the great fed tax ripoff and immigration from Mexico would not be a threat. We can absorb all the Mexicans who want to come here. I don't even think it will be more than around ten million or so.
Once the economy of Mexico comes up the influx will taper off. Most Mexicans I know are very homesick. They are only here for the money.
