projectusa.org

A tax-deductible non-profit public advocacy group headquartered in New York and dedicated to raising public debate about immigration.

ProjectUSA is for reducing immigration to sustainable levels, but is not anti-immigrant (just like an advocate of family planning is not "anti-child.")

Stop 245(i) mini-amnesty!

While thousands of Americans remain buried in the rubble of the World Trade Center, the White House continues to push for amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.

Our most pressing concern at this moment in yet another extension of Section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act that allows illegals to remain in this country with virtually no background checks.
All they have to do is marry a U.S. citizen and pay a fine of $1,000

This is nothing more than blatant pandering by the Republican Party to attract immigrant votes.  It was only a short while ago that President Bush told the American people that the federal government is "doing everything that it can to protect Americans from more terrorist attacks."   Is this how Mr. Bush intends to enhance our safety?

Have we learned nothing from President Clinton's "CitizenshipUSA" program that rushed more than a million immigrants through the naturalization process so they could vote in the 1996 general election?  As a result of the watered-down "security checks," including the elimination of fingerprinting, we now know that more than 70,000 immigrants with criminal records were given their citizenship papers.

Please call your representatives in Washington and ask them not to support another extension of 245(i).  This is not the way to honor the memory of those lost on Sept. 11.

There is too much involved, on a long term basis, to agree to any form of Amnesty, this side of the border.

It is an insult to all of us, immigrants no less than natives, to suggest that America degenerate into some form of undifferentiated humanity. A nation is not a game of muscial chairs. It is about heritage, and shared experiences, over generations. Suffering those who broke our laws--and in effect denied our right to control our own borders and communities--to come here, to remain, hardly makes any sense. I cannot understand why a basically decent, Conservative and moral man, like the President, seems to have a blind spot on this. (See Immigration & The American Future.)

>>"If you believe in family values, if you understand the worth of family and the importance of family, let's get 245I out of the United States Congress and give me a chance to sign it, [Bush said.]"<<

On top of everything else about this, I resent the dishonesty of portraying this as a "family values" issue. It should be an insult to the intelligence of every moral conservative, and it is nothing more than transparent pandering.

Just saw on another forum that the 245(i) bill will have a recorded vote due the enormous outcry from the public. If anyone has anymore information please post it. At least, even if it goes through we'll be able to see who the traitors were.

A quote out of theWashington Times today:

House Majority Leader Dick Armey, Texas Republican, said House approval "will send a message to the world that our country will continue to be a beacon to all who love freedom and the opportunity to live, work and raise a family."

What district is he out of? He's retiring so he obviously doesn't care what his constituents think. Come to think of it, none of them do. They deserve no less than a boot back to the farm in November.

Call and give them hell. I already did this morning and they are not my congressmen. Even if they are not your rep., still call and give them hell because they are the House Leadership and are responsible for bringing this to the floor for a vote. They will be responsible for the backlash that Republicans will receive for rewarding law breakers post 9-11. Don't let up. Phone calls and faxes are much better than email.

Tonight on MSNBC's "Alan Keyes Is Making Sense" Keyes will debate the partial amnesty measure for illegal immigrants that's scheduled for floor debate and a vote tonight in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Should be a good one!

This is a terrible situation. I am going to bolt all my conservative voting habits in 2002 and 2004 and vote a straight DEMOCRAT ticket if this BS passes.

Why should Republicans benefit from this horific deed?
