Tancredo doubts he can block amnesty-extension bill
Denver Post ^ | March 8, 2002 | Bill McAllister

Friday, March 08, 2002 - WASHINGTON - Rep. Tom Tancredo takes credit for thwarting the Bush administration's last effort to offer partial amnesty to thousands of illegal residents, but Thursday the outspoken immigration foe said he may have been outmaneuvered by the White House.

President Bush has struck a deal with the House leadership to place legislation that offers an extension of amnesty on its consent calendar before Bush heads to Mexico for a state visit next week, the Colorado Republican said.

That action should ensure quick House passage of legislation that Bush has repeatedly sought from Congress. It would allow an undocumented person to receive legal standing, such as a valid green card, by filing a declaration with the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

It presumably also would require the person to have been in the United States by a certain date and have filed a declaration with the INS from an appropriate sponsor, such as a relative or employer, and pay a $1,000 penalty.

"The terms are still up in the air," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration, a group that has been allied with Tancredo. "We've heard to the effect that the president wants something to bring down to Mexico."

The initial Bush proposal, designed exclusively for Mexicans, once was high on the president's legislative wish list, but it was delayed after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. However, as the president noted Wednesday in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, he now is pushing for the extension of the amnesty program known by the section of immigration law that covers it, Section 245I.

The president hailed it as a way to reunite family, separated by the border. "If you believe in family values, if you understand the worth of family and the importance of family, let's get 245I out of the United States Congress and give me a chance to sign it," Bush told the chamber members.

Tancredo, the head of a congressional caucus on immigration issues and proponent of halting virtually all immigration, said he had blocked a previous attempt by Bush to push an extension of the amnesty program through the House. But this time, he said House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., had agreed to place the issue on the suspension, or consent, calendar, making it difficult to defeat the proposal.

The Senate might be more favorable to the bill than the House, expanding the numbers of individuals who can apply, Tancredo said.

IT's odd that when Dane shows up, you're shortly behind. Just admit it, you're Dane. You're not fooling anyone. Like I said, everytime he is on, there you are. When he is off, you're nowhere to be around. Coincidence? Na, I don't think so.

You find it hard to believe that there are two right thinking individuals on the same thread? Consider us each a strong finger and you're the zit in between 'em.

Had the vice traitor Gore been elected president he never would have dared to propose this amnesty legislation. The same so called principled conservatives in the house leadership (delay..watts..drier..armey..etc) who voted for this amnesty plan for illegals when proposed by Jorge Bush would have all howled in protest had democrat Gore proposed it. I voted for Jorge Bush because he was the lesser of two evils. However, the lesser of two evils is still evil.

You (FReepers) accomplished a lot in the last 4½ days since this thread began as a simple post of Tancredo's stand for our people.

I think our guys and girls did a great job. At least we let our representatives know that there are a lot of us out here that are not asleep. It is going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the upcoming elections and in 2004.

Thanks for the work that you put into this thread.

Especially DeLay. He has gone around the last several years preaching and parading like a do-gooder Christian who believes in family values. They need to send his righteous a__ back to Texas and stick his butt in a 10-gallon hat where he belongs!

"If we create an Anti-Immigration Party, we will be vilified as Nazis or racists."

As another astute poster has already pointed out, they already have & are.
Comes a point whereby one has little to lose; & upon reaching that point, is when one's at their most dangerous.

The forces ramming this crap down our throats had best pause & consider that age-old *fact*.

A loss by ONE vote for our side.

Congressman Van Hilleary was just on talk radio here in east Tennessee. The very first question the host asked him was in regards to the amnesty vote. The host asked him how he had voted on the issue. Hilleary stated that he had "been unable to vote", but if he had been there, he would have voted "NO". He admitted during the course of the interview that he was in Washington. Yet he couldn't get to the capitol to vote last night? If you had voted "NO", Van, the bill would have FAILED! Do I understand that properly? If there had been ONE MORE "NO" VOTE, this amnesty bill would NOT have passed? I want confirmation on this, before I go off on this radio host for not following up on this with Hilleary. By the way; Hilleary is running for governor of Tennessee, and probably does not want conservatives to find out that he "allowed" this bill to pass.

But where were all these posters in 2000 when we had an anti-Immigration candidate in Pat Buchanan. They were likely voting for the pro-Amnesty Bush. They didn't want to be associated with the Fascist Buchanan.

I think we should call all the RINO'S offices today and tell them what traitors they are and that we will actively work to throw them out of office.

We Will Never Forget

I think you read my other post a little too fast; so here it is again:

Why must it be all [i.e., only] the responsibility of the United States to police the border?

If this were the early 1900's and President Theodore Roosevelt wanted to stop illegal immigration, I bet Mr. Roosevelt would have issued an ultimatum to Mexico that Mexico control its citizens--or else.

If immigration continues apace, other political goals won't matter, because we will see the day when this nation is 90% liberal and democrat.

Increasingly, the Republican party has had to adopt liberal ideas to survive.

Next election, I'm voting for whoever will restrict immigration of all kinds--even if that candidate is Gore or Hillary.

Gosh, have we ever spoken before? Do me a favor and don't reply or post to me.

Great handle. Was your mom fixated on the her spanking new automatic gearshift? Or was it the last thing you saw before the big accident that wiped out your brain?

You got something to contribute? Do so. If all you've got is to waste people's time attacking them, butt out. Don't come on to me with crap like "racist" or "gangster" or whatever.

Yeah, that's all I'm saying. What's happening now is senseless, and Mr. Bush just stomped on the accelerator, for god know's how many dim reasons.

The issue of propping up Mexico with aid is an old one, since it usually gets stolen, and then they collapse again. But this would be a defining moment for Fox, if he actually gave a crap about his country. He COULD oversee an uncorrupted transfer of aid which would result in infrastructure improvement, and be able to point to concrete progress (literally, concrete: highways, dams, etc).

The previous loan was Clinton using some slush fund money to prop up the peso. I believe it was on the order of $20 Billion. They did pay it back...oh, who knows. With Clinton, he could have had Rubin cook the books. But it did bolster the peso. Gingrich didn't want to have anything to do with it because he didn't trust the PRI (who does?) to use it intelligently.

I don't know if foreign aid to Mexico does anything. Obviously, the government does know, and they don't give much. That's an answer right there. But like I said, if Fox wanted to prove that he's really different, then he could run a program like this with integrity. Perhaps he could convince his own people to actually stick around and modernize their country.

But what does he do? Messes with us. Does all he can to export his own people. Tries to graft himself onto gringo land, like a giant parasite.

Fairly pathetic.

That's exactly what I plan to be doing today. And I plan to call young Mr. Throckmorton in Utah to volunteer my support in his bid to overthrow the fat sleazeball Chris Cannon.

"But where were all these posters in 2000 when we had an anti-Immigration candidate in Pat Buchanan."

Busy smearing him; where else?

"They were likely voting for the pro-Amnesty Bush."

Of course they were; as was I.
We sure as hell didn't want the Clintigula prot'ege'.
Most of us felt with every fiber of our being that no one could possibly be worse than Clinton/Gore; and, certainly not one of our own.
As such?
Many of us defended the party's candidate tooth & nail; which, this go around happened to be GWBush.

Our party loyalty merely based on what we thought right & just; and, well before CFR, teriffs, this amnesty atrocity ~& God knows what else this administration will roll over on before all's said & done.

Personally I've been a steadfast supporter of this Repub POTUS; and, especially following 911.
To me, my support was the patriotic & right thing to do; still is, too.
I'll continue to support this administration; however, it'll be a jaded support with an eye jaundiced by percieved betrayal.

"They didn't want to be associated with the Fascist Buchanan."

Yea, interestingly enough that's very true.
The paradox of our times knows-not political parties; not when it came to the forces who form our opinions -- ie, the Lamestream media?
Although in all honesty, & using hindsight?
Most of us, myself first & foremost, thought it did make a difference.
I'd hoped against hope it would matter & now I'd also have to admit [by now], it's apparent I (for one) was very wrong indeed; dead wrong.

Still, right here on this very forum are those who on the one hand will gladly damn the Lamestream sycophant SOBs; while on the other?
Turn right around & permit that same Leftist-Socialist media to form & influence their opinion(s) -- on candidates representing our ideology. (>?< !!)
What the hell's that all about, huh?

The phenomenom's crazy as hell.
Even Rush has pointed out (on numerous occasions) how the Right seems to look to the Lamestream media for some kind of validation of us, our beliefs, our candidates?

Such successful sliming & smearing of Buchanon by that damnedable media to OUR people, is precisely what happened to Mr. Buchanon, IMO.
Now, the chickens are comin' home to roost.

Not that unusual, really.
Another good example of the sheeple's paradox other than the Lamestream media, might be: how many times have you heard "conservatives" here badmouth Capitalism & the very concept of free enterprise et al?
When if you actually listened to what they were attacking, & how they were saying what they were??
They sounded as bad & often worse than any of the far left socialists ever could.
The frightening thing about this was, is & remains...they're not even aware of what they're doing.

America.
Ain't she great.

I already called the White House and voiced my displeasure with this insane idea. I told them I would no longer be supporting the President. I never had to wait so long to get an operator. I assume the White House is getting some hell today on this issue. I know it does not matter since HR 1885, but I wanted the President to know that this will not be forgotten. RINO'S are next.
