Yeah, that's all I'm saying. What's happening now is senseless, and Mr. Bush just stomped on the accelerator, for god know's how many dim reasons.

The issue of propping up Mexico with aid is an old one, since it usually gets stolen, and then they collapse again. But this would be a defining moment for Fox, if he actually gave a crap about his country. He COULD oversee an uncorrupted transfer of aid which would result in infrastructure improvement, and be able to point to concrete progress (literally, concrete: highways, dams, etc).

The previous loan was Clinton using some slush fund money to prop up the peso. I believe it was on the order of $20 Billion. They did pay it back...oh, who knows. With Clinton, he could have had Rubin cook the books. But it did bolster the peso. Gingrich didn't want to have anything to do with it because he didn't trust the PRI (who does?) to use it intelligently.

I don't know if foreign aid to Mexico does anything. Obviously, the government does know, and they don't give much. That's an answer right there. But like I said, if Fox wanted to prove that he's really different, then he could run a program like this with integrity. Perhaps he could convince his own people to actually stick around and modernize their country.

But what does he do? Messes with us. Does all he can to export his own people. Tries to graft himself onto gringo land, like a giant parasite.

Fairly pathetic.

Mexico is such a wealthy country ---about the same number of billionaires as Germany and more oil than the US has ---in fact the second highest oil reserves in the Western Hemisphere and many other vast natural resources. We should not have to prop it up ----it has to change. All it needs to do is stop being a corrupt hellhole for it's citizens.
