JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt filed for re-election Monday with a prediction that Democrats would win enough other races to regain a majority and make him speaker of the House.

Gephardt's candidacy filing in Jefferson City was sandwiched between those of two Republican colleagues -- Reps. Kenny Hulshof of northeast Missouri's 9th District and Todd Akin of the 2nd District in suburban St. Louis.

The House is almost certainly going to remain in GOP hands, and the majority is likely to increase.

Redistricting has generally favored Republicans, the economy looks to be on a strong rebound by November, and Dubya is doing a great job.

None of those are in the Democrats' favor.

I think we're going to win the House back, I really do. I'm very optimistic about it,''

Name the seats Dick. I want names. Are you counting that heavy GOP seat in Colorado (the 4th district) where you just recuited a candidate on your list? Why is it that so many politicians and unable to move move on from the spin cycle? What is wrong with you all?

Every election ol' Dick predicts he'll be the next speaker, just like every April ol' Ernie Banks hoped his Cubbies would make it to the World Series.

Ernie never made it, and neither will Dick.

"What we have is two important values in conflict: freedom of speech and our desire for healthy campaigns and a healthy democracy. You can't have both."

I concur...I mean, did they expect him to come out and say "The Dems are gonna lose 20 seats this election cycle."..Heck..even Charlie Halleck used to predict that he would be the next Speaker of the House.

Remember the polls just before the last election: They showed Bush winning by a slim, but clear, margin. So do the polls on the House, show, for now, a small Republican victory. Vote fraud could, and if we do nothing about it, WILL make the difference.

Dear Mr. Gephardt,
You may own the press, but the American people are onto you. You, and your party can't be trusted. We need adults in office who aren't seeking to divide a nation at war.
Sincerely,
Awakened American Citizen

I am certainly not optimistic.

You should be.

If this economy roars back as it appears it will, economic growth will have long coattails for the GOP.

Is the new district reliably Democrat? If it is, the GOP is not going to pour a lot of money into a Democrat district. It makes no sense.

In Texas, we're going to pick up at least two Democrat seats due to redistricting, and one newly created seat in Dallas.

If the Democrat party is seen as the anti-war party in the fall, we'll not only gain seats in the House, but take back the Senate as well.

I have said it a million times since around last October, when the Dems first started showing their true colors again after 9/11, and I'll say it again here: We will retake the Senate, by a larger number of seats than you think. We will retain the House and gain more seats there than you think. Come January, the Democrats will be a 100% minority, out-of-power party at the federal level for the first time since the Hoover Administration.

The combination of the war effort, the economic recovery, the sheer meanness of the Democratic attacks on the ultrapopular Bush, and the Dems' own total lack of any ideas other than "Bash the conservatives", will conspire to destroy them this November.

What is the third seat in Texas that you are putting into the GOP basket? I have only two in my basket.
