CAUSE OF GIRL'S DEATH COULD REMAIN MYSTERY

Police say they may never know how Danielle van Dam died, or when. The seven-year-old girl disappeared from her San Diego home February first. Authorities are now confirming that a child's body found by volunteer searchers Wednesday is that of the missing child. The district attorney says an autopsy performed confirmed her identity yesterday. The identification was made through dental records because of the condition of the body. Medical examiners are trying to determine the cause of death, but Police Chief Dave Bejerano says it's possible that we'll never know how, or when she was killed. A neighbor has been charged with kidnapping and murdering her. Authorities say they found the girl's blood on his clothing and in his motor home. He has pleaded innocent.

I own an ANKLE BRACELET. I even wear, at all times...A GOLD WEDDING BAND. Even when I leave the HOUSE!

I'll bet Slick thinks we women should be wearing burkas! Then he can't see our Mickey Mouse earrings.

"People want things the way they use to be and they feel like they're a voice in the wilderness."

Yep. Once upon a time, refusing to wear a chastity belt made a woman "loose". Once upon a time, wearing an ankle bracelet was considered riske in some areas. Once upon a time, wearing one's hemline above the ankle was SCANDALOUS. And leaving the house without a corsette...well, don't get me started on THAT.

Yeah, but this guy is going to get the death penalty. My thoughts are that if he was guilty and the evidence was there then he would be talking to save his life right now.

Although the posecution has filed "Special circumstances" required for the death penalty, they have yet to file capital charges. Such filings may partly depend on the strength of the case. In the OJ case, they did not ask for the death penalty, something I never fully understood.

I am just glad I am not one of those people that thinks just because someone does not feel a need to defend themselves against something that has nothing to do with the cause at hand

What many of us are saying is that "swinging" may well have had something to do with the cause at hand. The fact that they regularly had strangers coming to the house looking for one thing ...sex might have something to do with the case.

A person's lifestyle does have consequences ... both good and bad. The example of having gang members over or having alcoholic binges, or drug dealing ... all of them may have an impact on something having gone awry.

"The killer could have put a pillow or something over her mouth to make her quiet and in the process accidentally suffocated her. This wouldn't show up on autopsy."

Yes, it would. Bruising and ruptured blood vessles.

Does this include blush and various other female cosmetic articles?

Well then, maybe he's waiting to talk if he has something to say. Maybe he thinks his attorney is good enough to keep him out of jail. That's another thing I don't understand. How do these people find the "best" attorney so quickly? God forbid I should ever end up in a situation. I wouldn't know where to turn.

Folks, this is the meaning of the ankle braclet. When you wear it on your left ankle it means you are single. When you wear it on your right ankle it means you are married. I have one and I wear mine on my right ankle, meaning I am married and I am NOT a swinger. Some people may wear them just for looks not knowing or caring what the meaning is.

I learned this while living in Asia where jewerly is worn many different ways (toe rings, nose rings, belly button rings, etc....... The folks in India even wear dots on their foreheads to show their marital status.

Now, I don't know about that tight ass neckless that Danielle was wearing, but personally I don't like it on kids that young 24/7, just my opinion.

Of which I did not disagree with you, all I have said, and maintained is that it is not any of the public's business and as long as law enforcement knows about it that is enough.

They were told by the train personnel that it was a common problem and that it was chloroform.

I wonder what the lethality of chloroform on top of sleep drugs would be. My guess is that Westerfield would not have molested the girl in her room, but removed her as quickly as possible. He may have planned to take her to a secluded location and have his way with her in a sleep-state. He may have planned to use a mask to conceal his identity and perhaps return the child. Perhaps he fed her additional barbituates [this is why it's important for the coroner to undertake a complete toxically and drug analysis in this case].

Westerfield is not a stupid man. He probably planned this thing out like a chess game.

Where? Brain, eyeballs? I'm thinking of some of the SIDS cases out there that I've seen. Some were thought to be Munchausen's (suffocation with pillow) but it was impossible to prove. Of course, these were with infants and a 7 year old girl would fight harder if she was conscious.

Interesting question but I haven't a clue.

During the Victorian era, nearly every woman of quality owned an expensive black velvet ribbon, from which to hang their costly heirloon cameo.

In fact I have a wonderful choker that I bought at Neiman Marcus years ago that always gets comments. A black cord tied around my neck with an astounding heavy Barry Kieselstein-Cord cross. Oh, and one from Barney's New York ... a 24K choker chain with a filigreed cross with an emerald in the middle. Hmm, think I'll wear that one to work tomorrow.

Here's another thought I forgot to add. If the suspect is into 'alternative' sexual practices, perhaps he practices that technique (help-don't remember what it's called) where a person is choked in order to heighten sexual pleasure. People have been known to accidentally die in those circumstances.

I'm 90% certain Danielle was in a drug induced stupor when the abductor carried her out. Did he step over the gate at the top of the stairs (to prevent Danielle from falling shen she sleep-walked) or did he open and [maybe] shut it, while carrying the limp body?

If Westerfield's goal was simply murder, he would have been light years ahead of this sordid game by suffocating the girl with a pillow and then leaving the body.

He wanted her for a reason, his opportunity meter was off the scale, and his actions alone may not have killed her.

Yep...the story of the ankle bracele only confirms that we have good reason not to agree with Slick.

Ack. Thanks for reminding me about the belly button piercings. Now my fuzzy jammy pants feel somehow....abrasive. My oldest daughter got her belly button pierced...it was so uncomfortable, she let it heal up. Sometimes, we just have to learn the hard way.

I agree about the ugly, tacky choker. One of my girls wanted one years ago...I forget which one. She was around 16. I STILL didn't let her have it.

Personally, I think that all little girls are encouraged to dress like cheap hookers. Look at a Barbie doll. Shop for Barbie clothes for your girls...Barbie dresses like a cheap hooker.

It'd be interesting to know who put those there. The PR firm?

I have no independent knowledge of it but someone last night said the police put them there (our tax dollars in action).
