There were definitely some poor choices made, that 20-20 hindsight will haunt Danielle's parents forever. AND that is the case in the death of any child. BUT that doesn't make the VD's criminally or morally culpable in the death of their daughter.

Being a parent doesn't make one omnicient (although you should let your kids believe this for as long as possible). Those parent's had no way of knowing that evil stalked their neighborhood, waiting for opportunity.

Well, if you won't apologize, I will--sort of. We both might be right. I found four articles that mentioned the dog, a weirmoraner (is that proper spelling?). Two said it was debarked, one didn't go into it, and one said it wasn't debarked. I was going by the latter, but if the majority rules, the dog may have been debarked. And--as has been pointed out here, some dogs who have not been debarked don't bark when they should. The point still remains: why didn't the dog at least interfere with the prowler, unless the prowler was known to the dog, that is? And, it's never been mentioned, but I wonder if Westerfield has bite marks somewhere on his person?

I don't think the police are framing Westerfield. I just don't think this case is as neat and tidy as press has reported it. I also think the van Dams are covering up their role in what happened. This case has many of the same elements of the Jon Bennet Ramsey murder.

Another "open door" point, it was one of the coldest nights of the year, about 30*. If Damon was in the house, (and not the garage) an open door would have made itself very obvious by the cold air coming in.

Here is a possbile scenario.. 1:30..dog whines, Damon hears it, goes down, sees the open door and lights blinking, shuts the door: Is the door open because DW has just gone in, and the door is open? Or because he is leaving with the girl, and has just left. If he has just gone in, then did Damon shut him in, where he hung out, unchecked for an hour or more upstairs in the little girl's room until he thought it was safe to leave (when parents were in the garage).
