Birthday boy has overstayed his own party
by Howie Carr
Sunday, February 24, 2002

How old would Mary Jo Kopechne be this year?

After the interminable puff pieces of the last few days, we all know how old our bloated senior senator is - 70 as of Friday. He shares a birthday, but little else, with George Washington.

George Washington couldn't tell a lie. Ted Kennedy couldn't tell the truth.

When he first ran for the Senate in 1962, his slogan was ``He CAN do MORE for Massachusetts.''

Isn't that the truth? Massachusetts is truly Kennedy Country - a miasma of methadone clinics, abortion centers, drive-by shootings, illegal aliens, illiterate high school graduates and skyrocketing illegitimacy rates.

Ted Kennedy was a five-star general in the War on Poverty and, at least in Massachusetts, Poverty won. Our state now teems with Clarabel Venturas and John Geoghans.

Then there's Ted's personal life - Chappaquiddick, Au Bar, the waitress sandwich with Sen. Chris Dodd, the bar fights and the boozy incoherence. The short-term memory is always the first thing to go - just ask Andy, I mean, Marty Meehan.

Is there any more eloquent recent testimony to the utter desolation of his life than the statements filed in court in California by his drug-addled son, Rep. Patrick ``Patches'' Kennedy of Rhode Island?

Patches, you may recall, committed a triple hate crime two years ago at LAX, assaulting an elderly black female security guard who apparently . . . did not know who he was.

The runt's response was classic Kennedy. First he denied it. Then someone produced the videotape, and Patches said the old lady had it coming, bigtime.

Now she's suing, and Patches' defense is as predictable as it is pathetic. He says the woman ``voluntarily and unreasonably proceeded to encounter a danger which was known to her.''

In other words, he's Ted Kennedy's son, and she knew - or should have known - what Kennedys do to women.

Yet the mainstream press still worships these tongue-tied, beer-breathed bums. On Friday Judy Woodruff of CNN was swooning over him. Even Republicans now cut tubby Ted maximum slack. Ex-Sen. Alan Simpson, who lost his mind at Camelot High, is quoted as saying:

``When he tells you he's going to stick with you, he sticks with you through to the end.''

Tell that to Mary Jo.

Once the Kennedys were everywhere respected, or least feared - America's royal family. Now they are a laughingstock. When his niece Maria Shriver tells an interviewer that her husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has a ``Kennedy-like mentality,'' everyone starts giggling.

A Kennedy-like mentality. That means sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll. A triple Chivas on the rocks, hold the rocks. Vodka saunas and underage babysitters. Blondes bludgeoned with golf clubs and girls in wheelchairs.

And let's not forget Max Kennedy for Congress.

Say what you will about Richard M. Nixon, he pegged Ted Kennedy early on. After Chappaquiddick, H.R. Haldeman recorded that Tricky Dick's analysis was that Teddy ``was drunk, escaped from car, let her drown, said nothing until police got to him. Shows fatal flaw in his character, cheated at school, ran from accident.''

Still, this state is now a reflection of its senior senator, no doubt about it. The working classes have been supplanted by the non-working classes. This week, as a 70th birthday present, the Supreme Judicial Court basically legalized sodomy in public places, including beaches and rest stops. Sex alfresco has long been an obsession of Ted's - remember Sen. Heflin's crack about his support of ``off-shore drilling''?

Twenty years ago, a future governor made his mark by rooting out pension fraud at Boston City Hall. Now, the current governor participates in pension fraud at the State House. Ted's son went into rehab for cocaine abuse. The cardinal, who is not named Cushing, writes tender notes to serial pedophiles.

We are all Kennedys now, and in case you were wondering, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 61 years old today.

Howie Carr's radio show can be heard every weekday afternoon on WRKO-AM 680, WHYN-AM 560, WGAN-AM 560, WXTK-FM 95.1 or online at howiecarr.org.

Thanks for the heads up.

It's still true -

more people have died in the backseat of Ted Kennedy's car, than have died from a US nuclear power accident!

America, having no Lords, the poor wretches turned to politics and inbreeding. Hence the Kennedys.

LOL, This is the best explanation I have ever heard!

Ouch! :-)

And they keep electing him term after term after term. If it weren't such sad truth, it would be one of the funniest pieces I've read in a long time. I love Kennedy bashing pieces! And anytime you can get a dig at our beloved Senato Dudd it's a bonus!:-)

I wish I could get Howie Carr in the Greater Hartford area.

an intelligent observer would conclude that his regular self-induced "problems" derive from the continual, unrelenting loss of his family members. Any mental health expert would tell you the same thing.

I drink too much and smoke too much and have been known to hit on just about any woman with a full set of teeth. But I haven't experienced the death of a close family member since the mid 1970's when my grandmother died at the age of 98. So what's my excuse?

Did you get tossed out of Harvard for cheating? Are you a good swimmer?

You just aren't as creative as Teddy when it comes to leveraging family tragedy, face it ;)

It's amazing how how the most blatant liars and bags of wind always get elected in states like Massachusetts and N.Y. Between Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, I can't decide who nauseates and angers me the most. Did you see her on the news in Israel sucking up?

leaving the scene" instead of "vehicular homicide." Not noble or the right thing to do. But it does happen. 65 posted on 2/24/02 9:50 PM Pacific by buzzcat

Hey Buzzie try getting drunk driving your car into a lake, leaving your passenger in the car and then leave them to drown and leave the scene and see what the authorities call it!... I can not belief anybody could defend the actions of this low life!... He should still be locked up behind bars not getting drunk in the Senate!

I thought you might be able to pick him up on the Springfield Mass radio station, but he does have his 3-7PM show streamed over the net at http://howiecarr.org

Scoll the page over to the right and click on "listen live" from the pages toolbar at the top.

"Problems" derive from continual loss of family members.

All families continually loose family members, in life there is death.

Teddy's problems stem from his lack of character. He borrowed Jackie's backbone for much of his career, hid behind her skirts to avoid facing the music when he drowned Mary Jo, thereby labeling himself a coward too. He drove Joan to drink and destruction. Promotes the idea of Camelot with lots of help from the liberal media, when it only ever existed because of Jackie, her innate class and good sense in keeping her mouth shut, lest she be "taken care" of also. In order to escape the Kennedys she married Onassis who's millions got her out from under the weight of that smothering clan.

There is nothing about this man to reccommend him to anything other than hellfire. His liberalism is fueled by his guilt at his pampered inherited elite financial status. If he wants to take care of the masses, he can do it himself. Like all the rest of the rich elite in government it is only your, my money they want to waste. Thankyouverymuch, they'll keep thiers.

560 on the AM dial. This is the Springfield channel but you can get it clear to about Middletown. It is my afternoon savior. Howie is far to edgy to ever get on a CT radio station.

"Let us not forget that Howie Carr went to Prep Schools and then UNC Chapel Hill....He now lives in a very fashionable suburb of Boston. He has done very well for himself (appealing to visceral Kennedy-haters along the way)."

Is Howie Carr a leftist drunk wielding power over federal government policy that impacts us all?

"I wonder what Ivy League schools rejected his application?"

Wonder all you like. Come back when you have this one nailed down, will ya?

You've got that right! It must be the spot in the warehouse where my desk is. I have a tough time getting a lot of AM stations in the area. 1080 comes in good but the only time I can stand it is when Rush is on. I wish I could stick by my desk to listen to him on the internet but if I leave the dullards in the warehouse unsurpervised, all heck will break loose. Essentially, I'm a baby-sitter for middle-aged "adults". At least that's what I end up spending most of my time doing ;-)

Your post appears very anti-Irish. However, you seem to hit on a sort of truth somewhere in your diatribe. During the mass immigration of Irish into the US in the 19th century, the more money the immigrant had, the farther he could travel down the northeast coast on the ship from Ireland. If you had no money, you landed in Canada or Boston. If you had a little more money, you could get to New York City. Even more dough got you to Philly. My ancestors ended up in Boston. Many of them later went on to fight in and help win the War Between the States. (BTW, I want reparations for the unsavory horse stable work performed by my repressed ancestors...)

Me last name ‘tis Coyle. Anyways, the Irish are more than filled with their fair share of stupidity, and those stupid Irish had to group up somewhere, and Massachusetts is it. I know, I live there. But, I am an equal opportunity smearer and I throw in Italians as the other half of the political fodder for the socialist RICO crew of government in the Bay State. I mean, to the west of this rocky landing is the most beautiful and richest continent in the world and this begs the question of what kind of losers would mill about their grandparents beach landing and never get more than 50 miles beyond the coast? Massachusetts has some great engineering and science, but beyond that we produce pundits, lawyers, clerks, and 3rd generation welfare. So why am I here, because my other half is Scottish and I find a fight a day. It is sick, but I am happy.

You are SO correct. When I lived down South, I can't remember a friend who lived in or owned the same house as his late parents or grandparents. They don't stay at home until the folks expire. But this is common in the Mass. town in which I live. (I think this is partially due to the many 2 or 3 family houses here.) My buddies don't seem to pay mortgages! (I mean, the house is paid off!) They always bitch about property taxes, though. They drive nicer vehicles than my Southern buddies (who pay mortgages). A different culture, to be sure. And they do fight and use foul language with great frequency, too. But...I would still appreciate reparations from the Government for the unsavory work my ancestors toiled at in those horse stable! They can pay in a pint or two, of course.

Ted Kennedy is flying high and the liberals and other hangers-on are licking up his puke, but, buuuttt when the smoke of his torment is wending its way skyward they will be standing afar off striking their breasts with clinched fists crying Kennedy is fallen, is fallen, woe unto us for all our hopes and wishes are gone down to the pit with him.

WOE, WOE UNTO US HIS ENABLERS!!

Ahh---the "Infamous 'Blasted Break!!'"

The Voters of the "BeNighted State" of Massachussets Have Given the "Lesser Son of the Kennedys" a "Break" for DECADES!

I Fear our fellow "Voters" in my Beloved State are INCAPABLE OF RATIONAL EVALUATION of Sen. Kennedy!

We are TOTALLY Blinded by his Family History, & UTTERLY UNABLE to make a Rational "Voter's Decision" about "Ted's" Senate Behavior! "Teddy" STILL has the "CAMELOT" "CACHE'"

I speak with MANY who think that "Teddy" MIGHT "Champion" honestly "Good" Causes, but I think that our Senior Senator has become "disengaged,"--& Who's to Blame Him!

He could STILL "Do Some Good," but there are few of us left He might Listen to-----
