CNSNews.com) - Schools should let their students know that the differences between the homosexual and heterosexual cultures are many and profound, contrary to assertions by homosexual advocacy groups who seek to portray homosexuality as something innate and essentially without risk, a leading psychological group said.
Indeed, a same-sex male couple rarely stays together if the partners are not open to permitting each other to have outside sexual contacts, the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) said in a recent mailing to 15,300 public school superintendents around the United States.
The mailing "seeks to correct the misinformation that is being promoted by these homosexual advocacy groups that have an incredible influence on the public education system," said Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, president of NARTH and a proponent of reparative therapy for homosexuals who want to change.
"What we're trying to say to school supervisors is, 'don't just rely on pro-gay information sources to make your decisions.' All our stuff is well grounded scientifically," he said. NARTH is a non-religious scientific organization whose 1,000 members include psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists.
Homosexual advocacy groups, however, denounced the mailing as a misinformation campaign that will destroy families and hurt children.
"It hurts families," said Wayne Besen, a spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign. "It keeps families separated, it confuses people who need to accept themselves, and it promotes misinformation and outdated theories that are against what every leading medical and mental health organization in the nation says."
The mailing goes out to the same school officials who were targeted in 1999 with a pamphlet entitled "Just the Facts," written by a coalition that included the American Psychological Association (APA).
The APA pamphlet encouraged schools not to inform students that therapy exists to diminish homosexuality and not to refer such students to counselors who will reflect their own family's deeply held values.
"NARTH was so incensed by the misinformation and untruths provided in the APA pamphlet that it immediately took on the task of raising the necessary funds required to compile, print and distribute" the mailing, Nicolosi said.
"Homosexual advocacy groups have been masterful in their ability to reframe what is essentially a health issue to a human rights issue, and when you talk human rights, everyone gets paranoid," he said.
"When you introduce the possibility of change, you introduce the possibility of freedom to choose, and when you do that, you undermine the foundation of the gay agenda," he added.
Homosexual high school students were more likely than non-homosexual students to have engaged in high health risk behaviors, including alcohol, cocaine and inhalant use.
By the age of 30, some 30 percent of homosexual men will be HIV positive or dead of AIDS; by the age of 50, about 50 percent of homosexual men will be HIV-positive, NARTH said.
NARTH estimates the homosexual population in the United States to be between 2 percent and 2.5 percent. Nicolosi said it was difficult to estimate the number of ex-homosexuals, people who once considered themselves homosexual and changed their orientation through reparative therapy and are now leading lives as heterosexuals.
"These are people who still are ashamed to come forward because our society doesn't understand or appreciate their struggle," he said. Ex-homosexuals should be encouraged to come forward and tell their stories, he said.

What if a student is intimidated by opposition to homosexual propoganda in school?
Actually, I examined the NARTH site for statistics. They speak a great deal of “overcoming homosexuality” and “decreasing same sex attractions”. But they never mention an increase in opposite sex attraction. Sexual attraction, as I have mentioned is both measurable and consistent over time.
Here is a typical passage from an article on the NARTH website:
In contrast, the married man with a homosexual background may find conjugal relations to be less intense, but he is left with a sense of rightness, contentment and well-being. Rather than feeling depleted, he is renewed, feels satisfied and good about himself, and experiences himself as an integral part of the heterosexual world.
This seems to back up my idea that ex-gays trade sexual fulfillment for social acceptance. Another article on the site heralded this trade off by upholding ex-gays as less likely to cheat on their wives with other women. That article has since been pulled.
You might try researching things using both statistics from the homosexual advocate and non-advocate groups. You might just find that what you say is not true.
I agree that this subject warrants further investigation. But wouldn’t it be better to find unbiased research?
That people who have changed their way of homosexual thinking through God's strength are tuly active heterosexuals (or are the all telling fibs?).
If you have evidence to this I’d be very interested in seeing it. From what I’ve seen and read, ex-gay men do not experience an increase in attraction to women.
And of course we are to love all men (and women, which was implied). We are not to love and endorse sin.
No one’s saying you should. Nonetheless the evidence seems to suggest that while it is possible for homosexuals to change behavior, there is no know way to change sexual attraction. It would appear that homosexually orientated individuals have to walk a very hard path to gain the acceptance of their religious brethren.

Seems that that is exactly how one is supposed to feel after having sex with ones wife. These guys are now perfectly normal.
SAD is a mental disease that is curable through either secular or religious reparative therapy. SAD results in a choice to perform perverse behavior. There is no such thing as sexual orientation. There are only SAD and broken individuals desperately in need of being cured.
Why does the SAD community protest these poor souls who are trying to get well? Is it that if one can be cured then they all can be cured and the violent SADs would rather fight than admit their faults?

Some say Bisexuality is a myth embraced by homosexuals who haven’t fully accepted their orientation. I’m not so sure. It appears that there are some people who are sexually attracted to members of both sexes. There are also some people who engage in sexual activity without a particular attraction to their partner. Hedonistic sexual activity doesn’t necessarily require sexual attraction. Maybe Elton John is a homosexual who also engages in hedonistic behavior? We’d need an objective, consistent, and reliable test to find out.
Homosexuals died of AIDS in droves in the 80's because they engaged in risky behavior and LOTS of it. It was a choice. And still is today. Face it. It's a behavior, not a genetic trait.
All behavior is choice, but homosexual attraction objectively exists. There exist a significant number of people who are sexually attracted to members of their own sex and not to members of the opposite sex. Is it genetic, developmental, or a combination of both? I don’t know, but I try and follow the research. Homosexuals may act on their impulses or they may choose not to. They may marry and bear children. None of this changes the fact that they are homosexual.
Makes complete sense to me. Men by their very nature want sex more often than women.
I do find it strange that there are people who think a person can be enticed into a "gay lifestyle". I have asked this question of every gay person I have came into contact with. Some are very politically conservative. So far of the 12 or so people I know who are gay they said it was something they had to come to terms with at an early age.
I started liking girls and admitting it at about age 12. Most childern go through an early stage where they prefer the company of their own sex. Adolesence is a very confusing time for kids. God knows the trials that a homosexual boy or girl must go through. Do they try not to be discovered? Are they ashamed? How must they feel?
I don't want to dismiss these childern as worthless. As sinners. Or as less than human. I don't want them tied to a fence post by people who feel encouraged to hold malice towards Gays.
What I would like is for every Christian to read his bible and see which sin it is that he finds greater than his own. Spinning and lies will not make life better for tortured teens who seek answers.
Remember, the devil did not make ten percent of our population left handed nor ten percent gay. It was our God in heaven who created man. Perhaps Gods image includes the capacity to love and tolerate.

Reparative therapy doesn’t work. The technique doesn’t create a heterosexual attraction. It seems only effective in creating psychological eunuchs. The need to force others to destroy their sexuality to be acceptable strikes me as amazingly selfish on your part. I feel sad for those who take your advice.

Sexual orientation, as a function of sexual attraction objectively exists. If it didn’t there wouldn’t be any heterosexuals either. Even your friends at NARTH concur. People make choices to follow or resist their sex drives. Demanding others, or even worse, forcing others to abandon their sexuality to please you is both selfish and cruel.

Co-opting psychology to advance a political or social agenda is deceptive and unethical. Even your terminology (SAD) is insulting to the ones you claim to wish to help.

Ultimately it’s their choice to make. Personally I feel people shouldn’t destroy their lives so that selfish bigots can maintain power, dominance, and control.
It doesn’t matter if he is well known. If Elton is bisexual, he is atypical.

Don’t confuse orientation with attraction. Some men might be attracted to blond women, but their orientation is heterosexual. There is a difference. Sexual orientation determines the direction of the desire; sexual attraction determines the level of the desire. It’s also common to be attracted to someone without being sexually attracted to him or her.
There is a lot of controversy about the origin of sexual attractions. Some say hard wired, and some say environment or a combination of the two (I side with these guys). We won’t have a definitive answer until more is known about the brain.
