"ADULT CONTENT"
by Cindy Furnare

The term "adult content" should bring to mind an informative document of substance. Unfortunately, just like the word "gay" has been perverted; so has the term "adult content."

Truly it is disgusting to be bombarded by "adult content" e- mails which you would NEVER sign up for. There is nothing "adult" about these "adult content" e-mails. As a matter of fact, the term "sick and perverted" accurately describes these "adult content" e-mails.

Well, the internet search engines which include "adult content" are not any better. Perverts on the internet are not behaving like "adults" and their "content" is outright pornographic. Why "adult content" is included in any search engine is beyond me.

So, shut off your computer and turn on the TV. You have to search around a bit with the remote and finally you find a good program to watch. Unfortunately, as you channel surf; you realize that disgusting movies and "adult" channels are becoming more prominent as television enters the "adult" stage for at-home viewers.

Frankly speaking, our politically correct society has given the nod to the normalization of perversion. How much perversion will our society tolerate before we grow up, act like adults, protect our children and save our society?

Will all the men and women of high moral fiber stand up now and XXX out the obscenity in our society? You can start at home by tolerating only decency and honesty. Make this the normal standard in your household. Be an upright person filled with integrity. Carry your high moral standard with you at all times --- at home, at work, at church and in your community. Let your character shine as a beacon of light in this dark world filled with evil.

Maybe someday, we can gayly define the term "adult content" in a bright light that won't bring shame upon our society.

Maybe....

Thanks Duke for that comment.

I have realized for a very long time that the problems with our society are larger than the internet, but my daily e-mail does seem to reflect just how low our culture has sunk --- mired in the muck for sure.

A large part of the problem is that sending spam is free to the sender. I have been innundated lately by Chinese language spam, more than the sex spam. And I find it just as irritating. BTW, there is no reason for anybody on this planet to have the notion that I read Chinese.

Spam? Just delete it and don't read it. The Subject line almost always identifies the content.

I didn't realize until this moment that you are not only sharing this piece, but perhaps the author as well(?) If that is in fact the case then thank you so much for addressing so succinctly and eloquently a topic that has irritated me for many years...that topic being the misapplication of the word "adult" in our modern lexicon.

Another topic that occupies a similar niche for me is the co-option of our symbology for love by the porn industry (valentines' hearts, little cupids, etc). Our culture does itself no small disservice by deliberately confusing love and lust.

In reality I'm no "enemy of pornography" however, unlike the crowds depicted at the beginning of the film "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" I am not inclined to proclaim the grotesque to be king simply as an excuse to revel in grotesquery.

I have in the past found myself wondering where exactly in pornography lies the evil, and why a porn film should be considered any more evil than a slasher film or even a modern-day action movie. Ultimately I've concluded that the evil of pornography is it's depiction of selfishness - because it is a depiction of individuals pursuing their own base pleasure with no regard to those with whom they participate.

When "Rambo" risks his own life to rescue the prisoners it is a selfless act...when "Big John Holmes" gets it on it's a selfish act. I believe selfishness is at the core of pornography, and that it is perhaps the purest distillation of evil.

Go look at some of the links Cindy posted. I was surprised at what I read. I was like you and just thought if I delete the spam that's enough. There's more to it. The 'SpanAbuse' link is really informative.

Thanks, Cindy for posting this!

The pop culture in this society is at base level. I happened to catch on TV [Inside edition] that full frontal nudity will be aired on prime time within the next 4 years, according to tv executives for the major networks. It really isn't surprising considering that all of the pop culture icons [who are pushed toward children] sell pure sex. Brittany Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguillera, etc--all grovel around like dogs instead of acting like human beings with special dignity.

If decent human beings don't stand up and fight for our foundational culture, our republic will be lost, because as moral values are tossed aside, the government will be there to regulate the behavior produced by those loss of morals. A climate of immorality only gives the government an opportunity to expand.

Very good post, Cindy. Your point is well taken that the internet is not the panacea of decadence in our society, but the breakdown of our moral fiber is done by desensitizing ignorant people incrementally.

To those who have no concrete beliefs, if something is thrown in their face enough, they are willing to accept it. Pathetic, but true.

"How much perversion will our society tolerate before we grow up, act like adults, protect our children and save our society?"

Certainly no more than Rome (just after it ceased to be a world power) centuries ago.

Unless there is a great revival in this country, the abnormal & perverse will grow, but there will always be those who stand for honor & integrity and virtue, but regretfully their numbers will be small.

future generations who find themselves wondering...What happened to America?

After all of us "old dogs" are gone there won't be anyone left to tell them that there once was a real "America".

They will not only accept but love their status as pampered serfs.

Or maybe G-d will have to give us a little thump on the head to get our attention. My dad had to do that sometimes when I was a kid. The thump really hurt because he had a big class ring on the hand he thumped us with. It hurt, but didn't injure and was usually enough to get me to "straighten up and fly right" as he used to say.

We all know what happens to nations that don't straighten up and fly right.

Shalom.

Ultimately I've concluded that the evil of pornography is it's depiction of selfishness

That is an outstanding analysis, but I think it lacks one piece. The selfishness is not just the use of things for pleasure, but the use of people for pleasure. Using a man or woman for sexual gratification, without any intent to form a lasting relationship, reduces that man or woman to a mere animal - similar to enslaving them. If they proclaim to like being so reduced - as even one FReeper has claimed - we have done even worse than reducing them to the status of a beast.

We have taught them to accept it.

Shalom.

Very well said. That paragraph belongs on the SASU talking points for sure.

We're following exactly the path of old Rome. Most likely answer to the question? As much as it takes to destroy us.

Thanks! I do wish more people understood the connection between loss of freedom and immorality. I'll index it.

Regarding the computer and the TV, one of the best things you can do to get away from them is adopt a time-intensive hobby. There are a lot of things more fun that television: old cars, new cars, astronomy (telescope making), radio-control models, rockets, home repair, and the list goes on and on.

I find that planting myself in front of a TV or computer is a sure prescription for depression. I have to be accomplishing things.

As far as the porn spam, I have never opened one. Not because I am any less tempted than any other man, but because there is a real high probability it contains a virus.

The success of the porn viruses though, shows that few people are not tempted by porn.
