WASHINGTON - The economic stimulus bill that President Bush says will hasten recovery from recession appears dead in the Senate and will probably be shelved, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle said Tuesday. Daschle, D-S.D., said neither Republicans nor Democrats will have the 60 votes necessary to win approval of their competing measures and that the Senate will take up other business on Wednesday.
"It's with great regret I will pull the bill tomorrow," Daschle told reporters Tuesday.

I dont get it... Is this how the democratic process works? If Dasshole supposes there isnt 60 votes they dont vote? If thats the case then why did Nader get a shot at the prez last year???

Of course I understand it, and I am certain the President does as well. I am willing to see what happens, because one thing I know: President Bush is smart at this stuff. AND he does things differently than the dems expect.
Patiently waiting to see what happens...

And if we FREEPERS are going to let this pass without voicing our extreme outrage at this SICKNESS going forward, we are to blame as much as the weak kneed and speechless Republicans who don't stand up to the Little General immediately!!!!
GET ON THE PHONE, FREEPERS, AND LET YOUR CONGRESSMEN, SENATORS KNOW YOUR DISPLEASURE!!!!
(BACKHOE - COULD YOU PROVIDE THE CONGRESSIONAL PHONE NUMBERS) Thanks.

""It's with great regret I will pull the bill tomorrow," Daschle told reporters Tuesday." Can we email him and tell him to bring the bill to a vote? Contact local senators?
To: finnman69
Bush needs to get out a big 2x4 and whack Dashole across the head with it. The only thing that takes 60 votes for is to overcome Mr. Partisan Obstructionist. The American people won't stand for this, period. Can you say Minority Leader?

The number of Americans out of work since 9/11 just hit one million; and Tiny Tom has sunk this low? I wish he'd opened his mail a few months ago.

Dasshole has said, "America be damned". It's all about POWER and control of the agenda. This has gone on too long and I hope the Republicans come out swinging. I hope Jumpin Jeffords is proud of himself.

How in hell are the democrats sinking fast? They still kill importans legislature, and we are powerless to stop it. And Das-hole still gets suport in his home state!
And what exactly is the deal with this "60 votes" rule? I want an explanation as to WHY he can change the rules all of the sudden. How can he get away with this? No Republicans are objecting to this? If he can get away with this, it's over. They are not sinking fast, we are sunk.

Dashole should become a target of GOP political attacks. Let America know that the Dems want a recession and a stock market crash.

Oh, yes......keep this up, Tommy. I'm begging ya. And see if you can make sure Fritz Hollings is with you at EVERY press conference! It's a sure fire win for you guys. / sarcasm off. Yeah. They are gonna need more shovels I think, so they can dig their own graves. They are HOPING the recession will continue so they can lay blame on the GOP for the economic woes. By November, the economy should be doing better (I hope so anyway), and Daschle will be back in the minority again (I HOPE!). . .

It really pisses me off that the losers at StrangeCosmos not only stole my creation, they removed my plug and replaced it with their own!

I believe it was Jefferson (but I could be wrong) who said that anything other than 51% is
minority rule.
What Daschle is doing is allowing 40 Senators to dictate what happens instead of 51.
This is not the way that our government was supposed to work.

The Republicans should make the Dems filibuster. Wouldn't that be great? What with a war and a weak economy, the American people could watch Robert Byrd expound on a whole host of worthless subjects. Come on Trent, force Dasshole's hand. Trent can't. The majority leader determines what reaches the floor and what doesn't. If Daschle doesn't want the bill to reach the floor -- which would force the Dems to filibuster -- it won't.
