Fresno, California Peacenik FReep 2-1-02
2-1-02

Posted on 02/01/2002 9:58:25 PM PST by mtngrl@vrwc

It was a clear, crisp evening tonight and watching Fox News or reading FRee Republic by the fireplace was where most of us would have usually been spending the evening, but those of us who are part of Operation Infinite FReep were where our hearts were tonight, on the corner of Blackstone and Shaw in Fresno, California. There were more patriotic Americans at tonight's Peacenik FReep than we have had in a couple of months and a fabulous time was had by all who attended! We started out with just a few FReepers, but throughout the evening I counted at least twenty people on our side of the street. There were probably as many people on the other side of the street, where the Taliban supporters congregate.

One noteworthy thing that happened tonight was that two of the peaceniks ventured over to our corner and brought us a copy of a letter that they delivered to The Fresno Bee and they just wanted to bring it to our attention. This is what it said:

"This is an open letter to the demonstrators on the Southwest corner of Shaw and Blackstone:

For the past few weeks the Friday night gathering on the South West corner of Shaw and Blackstone have been displaying signs warning approaching motorists that the Anti-War protesters on the Southeast corner were "Taliban and Terrorist Supporters." This label is not only inflammatory, and blatantly untrue, it is also unkind. Many of us have spent the past several years decrying the Taliban and its treatment of women. As people dedicated to non-violence, we opposed violence by terrorist organizations, such as al Qaeda, and terrorist governments such as the United States. (The only government to be condemned for state sponsored terrorism by both the UN and the World Court.)

Under most circumstances our opinion would be "sticks and stones," and we would not worry our self with their opinion of us. Indeed their opinion of us is really not the issue. What is at issue are facts and responsibility. What is also at issue is respect. It would be unfair and possibly untrue for the anti-war protesters to identify the demonstrators across the street as supporters of killing Afghani babies. It seems that they support the President, and that they support U.S. troops in Afghanistan. To say more would be an unfair characterization.

Sincerely,

Peace Fresno
(I am deleting individual names included here)
1396 N. Ferger
Fresno CA 93728
978-2154"

Another thing that happened that is worth mentioning is that a pedestrian who was standing on FReeper Corner was waiting for the light to change and as it did, he purposely kicked over the sign that warns drivers by that the Pro-terrorists are to be found across the street from us. Then he reached over and knocked down a similar sign that we taped to the street sign warning people driving the other direction of the same fact. He then crossed the street and joined the peaceniks.

Oh did I mention that these peaceniks who complain that we are being "unkind" and posting signs that are "inflammatory and blatantly untrue" were holding their signs again that call President Bush and his "thugs" fascists? Hm....

Freepers in attendance tonight were:

I hope that I haven't missed anyone. If I did, please accept my apologies and speak up!

Answering "HONK," ma'am! *VBG* I'm sure you all must have discussed an answer to their "dum" letter (*G*), soooo -- FReepmail me with what you can remember?? Or let me know what points you want to be addressed (I think I can guess!), and I'll draft it from there!

I'll send you the first draft to be submitted for changes and comments, and then re-work it and send it back! I don't want to put words into anyone's mouth, so I think all FResno FReepers should be able to eyeball it before it goes to the Bee, eh?? ;-}

Just let me know, kiddo!!

Hi Syncro! Jeff and I were talking about you on the way home from the rally last night. I was telling him that if we go to the Outback Steak House, that just might be enough incentive for you to join us some Friday evening. Maybe after the weather gets better? :-)

Jeff just walked by and said to tell you hello.

mtngrl ~ Once again, Bravo to ya all! Thanks for sticking up for us regarding those dorks across street. Better dead than red! Peace and Happiness. Pattie. P.S. ~ Folks probably think it odd that I sign off w/ peace and happiness. It is what I wish for those of like mind and loved ones; doesn't mean I'm a goof that wishes it for all.

Another successful Freep! Hopefully, I will be able to make it this week (if my cold doesn't come back!). Some points to bring up in response to peaceniks letter:

The US leads in humanitarian spending, both taxpayer supported and private donations.

We respond to natual and manmade disasters world wide, even to disasters occuring in enemy nations, example the earthquake in Soviet Armenia in the 1980's.

The majority of missionary funding comes from the US, be it for humanitarian aid or Gosphel evangelism.

Can any arab nation compare? Their wealth is not spent improving the lives of their impovished brethren, witness the currant conditions in Afganistan. If OBL was concerned with Iraqi children or Palestinians, why has he not used his fortune to improve their lot?

No, be it earthquakes, famines, or floods, the US is there to offer aid.

Not bad for a "terrorist state", huh!

One of the traitors came over to where I was standing and said "I want to hear your whole spiel." I said, I got no spiel (grammatical mistakes for emphasis) and you sir are a traitor. After about five minutes of "discussion", I think he realized how utterly ignorant he was regarding the facts, and a few minutes later he drove by saying he had more important things to do and left the other moronic traitors to their own devices.

Later in confronting the traitors en masse, it was clear no one had told them to their face that they felt they were traitors. "What's a traitor?" they asked.

Anyone that gives comfort or aid to the enemy. Do you think it doesn't warm Bin Laden's heart to see pictures of the likes of you out here? I asked. One older traitor compared it to Vietnam to which the two of us, the other person a Vietnam Vet said spontaneously in unison, "This ain't Vietnam!"

The Fresno Bee published the pro-terrorist's letter today under the heading 'Matter of respect'. Why do they think we should respect people who desecrate our flag, compare our country to Nazi Germany, call our President a fascist and paper our corner with pornography aimed at some of our Freepers?
They do not deserve our respect.
They would let us be conquered before they would lift a finger to protect our freedoms.

"The Fresno Bee published the pro-terrorist's letter today under the heading 'Matter of respect'."

Why am I not surprised? You are right, "they" don't deserve our respect. Maybe one of us should write a letter to the editor pointing out the "respect" we have received from their side of the street.

The Fresno Bee published the pro-terrorist's letter today...

I hope it will backfire on the pro-terrorists and more patriots will be encouraged to come out and support your group and our troops!

Uh-Oh! The Bee is about to get stung! But the response letter can't be openly hostile to the Bee, or it won't be published. Hmmmmm -- I'll have to think on the best strategy here!! (I definitely need input from FResno FReepers on this; I am more than happy to draft a letter on your behalf, but I want to make sure I present your views and your feelings!!)

Several young men stationed at Fort Bragg hung out at our booth at CPAC this last weekend. None of them had heard of FreeRepublic, but they all signed up for the Network, and will register for the Forum as well.

One told me what got their attention wasn't the Sore Loserman sign, but the pictures on the booth of you guys with your signs in support of the military.... I used *numerous* pictures you sent me! Thanks you again for your help, mtngrl!
