Something to Say Commentary rsmith@wbal.com George Who? January 28, 2002) Its difficult to pinpoint the beginning of our end, but all the evidence indicates that we are well down the path toward self-destruction, or cultural suicide, if you will. The latest example in this mornings Washington Times is an article about how the revised version of the New Jersey Department of Education history standards manages to excise reference to the nations founders. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin have been removed in these latest revisions, as have the Pilgrims, the Mayflower, and the word war, which has been dropped in favor of conflict in lessons about American history. The Civil Conflict, one would suppose, was that nastiness between 1861 and 1865, and the Spanish-American Conflict was the one that gave us our first colonial possessions. Since these standards apply to American History alone, we are not yet subjected to our children being taught about the First World Conflict and its bastard son, the Second World Conflict, New Jersey, as much in the grip of political correctness as any state, isnt alone in this kind of trendy educational nonsense. Although excluding the founding fathers is pretty startling, erasing mention of the Pilgrims is a real stunner, too. Other states, like Virginia and Indiana also dont include Pilgrims in their standards. As far as I can tell from Ellen Sorokins story, the problem may be that the word Pilgrim denotes religion, about which we must not inform our kiddies at least not unless it is a religion other than Christianity thats to be discussed. This is a symptom of a far greater malady. But its revelatory as well. Its beyond time that Americans wake from their stupor and understand that their way of life is under fierce attack. We whites of European heritage are the only race seemingly compelled to self-loathing. Our time is short.

It takes a smart person to lead the dumb ones...
My daughter was instructed in Social Studies class recently to write in persuasive essay, addressing Rick Perry, asking him to sign a law that would force parents to sign a piece of paper "promising" never to "booooooooo" at a school game. If the parent "boooooed", the child would not be permitted to play and a few other things. (I might be leaving some details out).
She had to give her opinion of either being for this or against it. I asked her how she felt and she said she was for it. I said, "WHAT???????? You will NOT be for it." I gave her a good long lecture about freedom of speech and how we have the freedom to voice our displeasure and act like an idiot. Of course violence or assault is not right, and I don't condone booooing. In fact I don't approve at all. I think it's uncivilized and rude. However, we should not get in trouble with the police if we boo (unless we are throwing beer bottles). I know Im suppose to let my children do their own homework and have their own opinions, but I was quite surprised she didnt understand freedom of speech better, and it was a great lecturing opportunity. LOL
Anyway, she wrote an excellent paper and was the ONLY child to be against this idea. I was very proud of her for taking a stand. I explained to her that if they make booing illegal, what's next? What I felt sad about was no one else thought or realized it was "unconstitutional". (To me it was).
Whether my example is constitutional or not, is not really my point. I was agreeing with several of you, who assert our children are not being taught the PROUD basics of our government. My plan and hope is that I can take their eduction into my own hands.
(PS: Brownie, my kids attend a wonderful, country public school. Im friends with every teacher and they are Christians. We wont have that next year, and my children will NOT attend public school. My husband just doesnt know it yet).
Deus Vult! 'Pod
Deus Vult! 'Pod.
PS. Buchanan is on at 3:05 today.
However, we should not get in trouble with the police if we boo (unless we are throwing beer bottles).
Especially if I am still firmly attached to above mentioned beer bottle.
Good for you in instructing her in a NON PC way!!!
Homeschool bump.
