Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

Mine's a reaction to the overconfidence in technology and computers (things digital) as well as a tendency for folks to ignore subtle distinctions in favor of yes/no (on/off as in digital) easy answers. This isn't to say like a liberal I think everything is grey.... however real life is lived in an analog world.

Named after the Newbomb Turk Memorial Library.
I thought it was a character's name in a movie I saw.

Toirdhealbheach Beucail = Scot's Gaelic for "Roaring Terry" or "Thundering Terry" (Toirdhealbeach = Turlough = Terry, Beucail = booming or thundering, as in the roar of a cannon or gun).
My name actually would be Terry, and I have been accused of not having a volume control...

I noticed that shooters seem to own cats while hunters own dogs. That's a very astute observation. My daughter is a shooter (not too much of one) and owns the cat. Her husband, the hunter, owns the dog.
My house has 3 kitties and everyone here above the age of 12 is a shooter (all girls except moi..)

Once upon a time, my wife and I had pet names for each other: "Rose" for her (she was born and raised in San Antonio) and "Bear" for me (I'm large and furry.) Our first Internet email accout was shared by both of us, so we used "rosebear" as the account name. We've used the name to identify us ever since, except now that we have separate accounts she is the Rose in RoseBear, and I'm the Bear in RoseBear.

I chose John Lenin to get people to realize that the real John Lennon and especially the song Imagine was preaching communism.
Imagine no religion
Imagine no posessions
Any questions ?

Wow, this is a huge thread. This is the first time I've come across it.
MCH - pretty obvious. My real world initials.
I signed up as a FReeper back in '98 without spending much time lurking or otherwise paying attention to user names. By the time I realized the value of a clever and memorable handle, I'd already registered and it was too late to do anything about it.

I always wanted to start a thread like this, but never had the guts.
My handle is easy to figure out. hint: creationist.
I chose that one because my other choice would have been too obscure. If anyone gets the origin of the "other choice", you win...well, I'll think of something.
other choice = gazorninplat
It's not a combo of any words.
