To: The New York City Council, The New York City Fire Department
We the undersigned citizens of the United States, and concerned citizens from other nations, hereby petition the New York City Fire Department and the City of New York as follows regarding the proposed statue depicting the raising of the US flag at ground zero of the WTC attack by firefighters on September 11, 2001.
1. Immediately change the proposed statue or replace it, such that the actual events of the flag raising are accurately depicted to show those firemen who actually raised the flag doing so. Use the famous picture, shown below, of the flag raising to acurately depict the flag raising as it occurred.
2. Cease all efforts to modify the historical record of that day in any way, shape, or form that would promote a so called "culutural diversity" or "politically correct" agenda of any type and simply present events as they occurred accurately for rising generations.
This event is of great historical significance and has united the American people like no other. The only hope for future generations to avoid and/or counter similar events is for the historical record to be accurate. The only way to continue the unification created by those horrible events is to present them accurately and truthfully. To do otherwise will only promote disunity and aide the cause of our enemies.
One might just as well try and depict the terrorist animals who perpetrated these attacks and those who aided and abetted them as choir boys and peace loving pacifists as to depict the heroic events of that flag raising as something other than what they were. The fact is, those enemies who attacked this nation were cruel, grossly evil and perverted in their actions and deserving of a harsh and just retribution for what they did. Thousand of innocent American and other lives were lost due to the twisted religious and ideological ravings of those whe pepretrated the attacks, thousands who were innocent of any crime other than trying to live their lives in freedom and peace.
The fact is also that the events regarding the flag raising occurred as they did, without any thought to political correctness or cultural diversity. At that moment, the only thought was patriotism to our nation and devotion to the duty of helping the victims. To depict it in any other manner sullies an historical and a heroic act, and descrates hallowed ground. The American people will not stand for it. Sincerely,
The Undersigned

Thank you so much, Jeff, for starting this petition. If there's any other way to help prevent this asinine misdepiction of real heroes, I'm there. Letters, phone calls, etc. I signed it, of course.

I tried to paste this into the site linked above, but all it accepted was the first line. Any way to bypass this problem without typing every single word into the box denoted as "comments" ? Thanks for the post and links. I did manage to go to nyc.gov and post directly to the commish.

Commissioner Scoppetta,
It has come to my attention that the proposed design of the statue depicting three of New York's finest, (NYFD firemen originally captured on photographic film while raising an American flag at the WTC site), has been HIJACKED by the mindset of the politically correct.
I purchased a tee shirt from my local grocer (Krogers) in Lincoln, Illinois, just days after the terrorists committed their heinous crimes against humanity. I could have cared less what ethnicity was represented by these individuals, spontaneously raising the red, white and blue.
This manipulation of the facts is absurd.
Those that would use this iconic moment in time to further ANY agenda, is irresponsible and creates far more division than it attempts to eliminate.
Historical revisionism is always a bad idea. Let the facts speak for themselves.
If the city of New York wants to create an accurate representation of the sacrifices made on 9-11, 2001, remember this: lives were lost representing 80 nations.
Will your design committee leave out other ethnicities ? Will your design committee include the handicapped ? Will I see a female ? Surely the homosexuals of NYC will be represented in the design, won't they ?
An accurate depiction of the facts or a distorted depiction of the facts ? What is the right thing to do ? Give the men that raised the flag the credit that is do them.
Honor the lives and sacrifices made by EVERYONE in the right way. Save the politically correct grandstanding for the late night television audiences.
End this nonsense post haste and let's move on.
Respectfully,
from a former volunteer firefighter from Central Illinois,
Perry K. Harris.

I just posted, and I am not quite sure you were on the flag list. It is wrong to rewrite history. Some folks are saying that the depiction of Iwo Jima is a farce. It is the disgusting daring of such demons that lets these folks get away with this.
