To: The New York City Council, The New York City Fire Department
We the undersigned citizens of the United States, and concerned citizens from other nations, hereby petition the New York City Fire Department and the City of New York as follows regarding the proposed statue depicting the raising of the US flag at ground zero of the WTC attack by firefighters on September 11, 2001.
1. Immediately change the proposed statue or replace it, such that the actual events of the flag raising are accurately depicted to show those firemen who actually raised the flag doing so. Use the famous picture, shown below, of the flag raising to acurately depict the flag raising as it occurred.
Sincerely,
Here's the text of what I'm sending:
Dear Mr. ________,
A politically correct statue of that famous photo of the three New York City Firemen spontaneously raising the American flag on the ashes of the World Trade Center is being planned. But instead of the actual three New York City Firemen being depicted, a generic grouping of a black, a hispanic, and a white are planned. This is an outrage! The forces of the politically correct are now treading on sacred ground!

This petition was first posted on 1/15/02 at 10:53 AM Pacific. As of this writing, 18,631 Americans have signed the petition! (I'm keeping tabs on the number as I write these letters) This petition was mentioned in the New York Daily News this morning, World Net Daily, and on Fox News. There are already reports coming in that those people who would use this very special moment in history to perpetuate racial divisiveness are beginning to cave in. Please help keep up the pressure!
Yours in Brotherhood,

Wouldn't it have been a real winner if we had thought to incorporate a WTC Firefighters Memorial fundraiser with the petition. Maybe next time. Thanks for your efforts.

Keep sending the message--Be true to the truth.
Jeff, Are there any other understatements you'd like to make at this time?
Thanks and congratulations!
Hoo-yah!
I believe we will win this small skirmish and thank the hand of Providance for it which has operatred through so many.
Now if we can just get some momentum and roll back so many other similar and even worse issues!
What a day ... what a ride ... 15,000 signatures today.
However, you neglect to appreciate the obvious in this exercise to alter a decision made by the government.
Government only responds to economic pressure, an petitions do not carry the same impact as an economic boycott.
New York politicians, beginning with the newly elected mayor, would not like a boycott cloud hanging over New York, should they insist on moving forward with the BIG LIE.
Consequently, I would strongly urge every signatory to this petition to press for a boycott resolution from every organization and corporation in which they are voting members and or shareholders.
The public is determined to confront government's intentional actions to cause racial divisiveness within our multi-racial society; the response to this petition is evidence of that fact.
As a student of contemporary history, you should not be surprised at an overwhelming demand by American Citizens for a return to a moral foundation in the conduct of the public's business, and high matters of public pride.
If all of America had access to computers, I would not be surprised to find five to six million signatures to this petition for reconsideration of an ill-advised, insensitive, and amoral decree designed to ferment racial divisiveness through a manipulation of the truth.
Through this petition, America is putting government on notice that it will no longer be bullied, browbeaten or brainwashed into accepting government directives or edicts that insult American ideals and principles.
You have initiated a first step in moving government to mirror the will of the people. An economic boycott, combined with a 'blue flu' work stoppage by union and non-union New Yorkers will bring about the miracle this moment deserves.
