Gay Ambassador Troubles Embassy Staff
Story: Little attention was drawn to Michael Guest's homosexual relationship with his "partner" during his confirmation process as President Bush's ambassador to Romania. However, those working under Guest in Bucharest now find it difficult to avoid his flaunting of the relationship, according to an American embassy worker who recently spoke with FRC.
Although Guest had been active in a gay and lesbian group within the State Department, he was not publicly identified as being homosexual until his swearing-in on September 18, when Secretary of State Colin Powell acknowledged Guest's "partner," Alex Nevarez, during the ceremony.
Nevarez, a former teacher, relocated to Romania with Guest and now lives with him there in the residence provided to the ambassador by the U.S. government.
According to our source, several families in the embassy community have expressed concern about the ambassador's living arrangement, and at least one will no longer bring their children to embassy social events because they do not want them exposed to the example set by Guest and his "partner."
For example, Guest and Nevarez escorted one another as a couple at the embassy's annual Marine Corps Ball, a highly formal event. "It's causing me to have to compromise the values I raise my family by," the source said.
The appointment of Guest to serve in Romania showed a particular cultural insensitivity, given that the country is a stronghold of the conservative Eastern Orthodox Church.
Our source indicated that the Orthodox Church is represented at virtually all government ceremonies in Romania. One Romanian professor, in a letter to a Bucharest daily newspaper, said that "Romanians . . . cannot comprehend homosexual acts in any other way but as a deviation from the natural order and the world created by the Lord," and he noted that the Guest appointment "generates bewilderment, indignation, and disgust among the Romanians."
Romanian laws relating to homosexuality were recently liberalized, but only under coercion from the European Union, to which Romania hopes to gain entrance. Although Guest has denied he will promote a "gay agenda" as ambassador, his mere presence in Bucharest is already having that effect.
Another person serving at the embassy held a meeting in November to encourage leaders of Romania's fledgling "gay movement." And some embassy employees fear that Bucharest will gain a reputation as a "gay-friendly" post, so that more homosexuals will request assignment there. Ambassador Guest's treatment of same-sex "partners" (including his own) as the equivalent of married spouses is a mere half step away from government endorsement of "same-sex marriage." Not only does this violate the spirit of the 1996 federal Defense of Marriage Act (which defines marriage as being between one man and one woman), but it is also a distraction from the important work of our embassy in Romania.
Who're you calling a fogie?!! 31 here, pal! ;)
I noticed several tried to paint me as a hater of homosexuals when they [should] know I despise the behavior not the sinner.
As for Bush, I can draw only one conclusion-- the homosexual lobby has a greater impact on government, knowing that the visibility of government service more readily serves the purpose of legitimizing homosexual behavior. Well, if Bush wants to allow himself to be co-opted, so be it, but it will be without my monetary, physical, and voting booth support.
I am the one who described how uncomfortable people would be to see a heterosexual couple french-kiss on the dance floor.
But we would be extremely uncomfortable showing physical affection in public in any way that would offend people. I realize some gays like to shock people that way. I think it is in the worst possible taste.
That's my point. Most people can tell when someone is gay. And most people don't do anything when they notice. When I go to get my hair cut I think it would be in poor taste for me to make a comment about somebody just because they are gay. It's really none of my business. I think that when a gay person or couple does things publicly to make others uncomfortable they are wanting people to respond. Yeah, they want to shock people.
It's not a question of sex so much as being polite in front of others. I know that if my best friend's, a heterosexual married couple, suddenly started going at it sexually, my face would turn red from embarrasment on the spot. And I'd probably not want to spend anymore time with them.
From the article above we have no idea exactly what the couple did, but obviously it has made some people in Romania uncomfortable. And it is affecting Michael Guest's ability to do his job. It could be a slight as them holding hands. Who knows?
Code words for?
Just search on google.com for the Gay "value system" alliance You get a lot of related returns.
...and vote Democrat?
If you had a choice like between Republican Weld and Democrat Silber, would you vote for a Republican ?! Just to remind you, Weld established state paid compulsory promotion of homosexuality, transvesticism, bisexualism and other "sexual orientations" in middle and high schools of Massachusetts. Check www.massnews.com archives for "Weld".
There are plenty of decent Democrats and plenty of indecent Republicans. Do not be a Yellow Dog Republican if you do not want to get a dog (or worse).
I understand your point, and I think it is pretty dumb to appoint an ambassador to a country who will insult that country. What could W. have been thinking?
That said, W. is not all Republicans, so he won't influence my tendency to vote for good Republicans. In addition, I'd hate to think what AlGore would have done in all those situations you mentioned. W. is not perfect. Nobody is perfect. But a perfect candidate didn't run.
I agree with your principled stands and I back you on doing everything you can to keep the GOP holding the line. But don't let your principles let a man like AlGore win.
Shalom.
But you weren't hoping, right? Right?
Shalom.
Me too. Homosexual attraction is not the only questionable use of human sexuality on the planet. Those who support the gay agenda are absolutely correct to wonder why so many Christians are so narrow-mindedly focused on this particular sin.
Shalom.
Sorry, but I'm not surprised that the left-leaning media wouldn't run such a story. Of course it is only going to be brought to light by an organization that gives a crap about morality.
...a press release which also tries to imply that "Romania" is incensed about this guy...
Actually, it suggested that assigning the guy to Romania, being a traditionally conservative Orthodox Christian nation (despite decades of atheist oppression) was a poor choice. I concur. Send him to Sweden where the local officials would probably cheerfully engage him in some partner-swapping.
...when four, unnamed individuals are quoted in the story.
So, how many individuals would they have to quote? First of all, the story relates the known fact that Romania modified its laws to kowtow to the EU. People who publicly speak out would be in trouble with the folks who are working to join the EU. Remember, democracy is a very new and fragile thing over there. The Army, the Police, and the criminals are the only folks capable of armed defense. How brace would you be if speaking the wrong words would cost your entire family their livelihoods?
Second, the homo agenda is particularly virulent when it comes to publicly attacking any who dare question their motives. I don't blame the four for only speaking on the condition of anonimity.
Romanian Orthodox Church is in Communion with Greeks and Russians. Is not united with Rome. There are some Uniates in Romania - probably the source of your confusion.
A. Pole is correct on this, ninenot. The Romanian Orthodox Church is in full communion with Antioch, Athens, Constantinople, and Moscow. You must be thinking of some of the Uniate Churches in the area.
Then they need look no further than their own agenda is discover all of their answers. They are constantly attacking Christian morals, beliefs, and practices using a variety of tactics, including special rights legislation. In Canada, Christian ministers are being warned that quoting the Biblical texts condemning the homosexual perversion could be considered a "hate crime!" Guess it'll back to the Catacombs for the good guys!
Nope.
I don't think it's a matter of being "narrow-mindedly focused on this particular sin", because most Christians are just as concerned over other sins. It's just that the media tends to focus on homosexuality as a "prying concern" of the "Christian Right". Which is unfair because most Christians I know are more upset about the fact that 1.5 million babies are killed each year by abortion.
Behind many sterotypes lurks a little truth.
