I was making the point that at one time in our nation's history the perversion of sodomy was considered an abomination. Yes, and so was apostacy and miscegenation. History is remarkable.

Yeah funny how people who are Orthodox tend to be conservative. Serbs are Orthodox and they pay for it.

the Romanian government is pragmatic enough to realize that they are getting the best person for the job The Romanian government may feel that way (although I doubt it), but you can be certain that the Romanian people don't. Sodomy is overwhelmingly frowned upon in Romania. Do a little research and you will see.

In reference to post 237, I wasn't talking about either Romania or Luxembourg. Admittedly, my question was on a tangent to this thread, but please address the question.
Why would the governments and peoples of Switzerland and Ireland be offended by the particular persons appointed to be American Ambassadors to those countries?
And while we are at it, how would offending the citizens of one country by our government's [un]diplomatic ambassadorial appointments justify offending another's?

The Romanian Orthodox Church is HARDLY the same as the Greek Orthodox Church. For openers, the Romanian Orthodox are united with Rome--that is, they recognize the primacy of the Pope. The Greeks don't. It is utterly false. Romanian Orthodox Church is in Communion with Greeks and Russians. Is not united with Rome. There are some Uniates in Romania - probably the source of your confusion.

NATO leaders took toward a decision next year on what countries share our value system and should be invited to join the Alliance I start to wonder. "Our value system", "joining the Aliance". Are those the code words?

Well I don't recall Colin Powell being Secretary of State during Clinton. Wait a minute! I never knew Colin Powell is gay!

The Romanian government may feel that way (although I doubt it), but you can be certain that the Romanian people don't. Here is what the representative of the government says:
In Washington, Romania's ambassador to the US, Sorin Ducaru, told the Washington Times: "This was no surprise to the Romanian government. This is a non-issue. He is a highly respected diplomat, and we knew he would come with his partner. Knowing Ambassador Guest, I very much appreciate his character and his great professionalism."

What's the difference between a NON-PRACTICING homosexual and a NON-PRACTICING heterosexual? I have objection to neither as priests, bishops, or pope. If they're NON-PRACTICING, how would you know?
I've concluded that you're incredibly naive.
To: Torie
Tolerance of various sexual preferences is growing. That trend will not be reversed. Homosexual marriage will be a fact in this country in 20 years in all probablility. It might be a fact for all practical purposes in California this year. If you check out the polls on the topic, you will find a very sizable generational difference. Indeed...those who indoctrinate our children through the public school system have succeeded beyond their WILDEST dreams.

Why would the governments and peoples of Switzerland and Ireland be offended by the particular persons appointed to be American Ambassadors to those countries? The government might be offended because they are not getting a legitimate diplomat, but rather a businessman who was chosen because he donated a lot of money to some political campaigns. These countries are probably used to it because the western European nations are plum assignments, especially for a rich man who can entertain lavishly. I'm not sure that France or England have ever had a career diplomat. The real work probably is carried out by lower ranked staff.
I doubt most people in a nation think very much about the ambassadors that other nations send to them. How many current ambassadors to the US can you name of the top of your head?
To: George W. Bush
I've concluded that you're incredibly naive. So, tell me how a non-practicing homosexual is different from a non-practicing heterosexual.
And tell me exactly how you know what you're about to tell me.
I've known lots of priests in my life, some no-doubt gay. I had suspicions about some of them, but, because they really were on the up-and-up about their commitment, I never knew.
Given the venom you've spewed against homosexuals, and the fact that you STILL haven't provided any evidence about Dag Hammerskjold being a "sodomite," I tend to take what you say on this subject with a huge grain of salt.

ragic events? It was a military attack on the US! Tragic, indeed, but the first word out should be "an attack!" I agree with you entirely. I just did a 'Google' search on "Tragic events of September 11." You wouldn't believe how often that term has been used. It makes the attack sound like an unfortunate natural disaster.

***I realize I've been threatening to with-hold my vote from the republicans for a while now. I'm going to make good on it. *** ...and vote Democrat? That's NOT the only option; although I am the first to admit that the winning candidate will be a democrat or republican in most instances. It is just a matter of how you are willing to go to compromise your principles.
To: A. Pole
I start to wonder. "Our value system", "joining the Aliance". Are those the code words? Code words for?
To: who knows what evil?
***and vote Democrat?*** was in response to another poster claiming he/she would not vote Republican again. But I understand what you're suggesting. ;o)
