Wow!
Thanks for the heads up.
This is history. On the line of filming the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Just reading the account leaves me breathless, and so grateful for all the men and women who gave their lives helping others.
greater love hath no man...
God bless them all.

My FRiends, I promise not to overuse this list; it goes to the "hole of offdisc files" after this.... but this subject is too important to ignore.... please bump your lists and suggest that we all use this:
Ignorance Making You Ill? Cure It!
to tell as many people as we can reach
"Make this tape public!"
It may be raw, but we all need to see this again and again, until it is as burned in our minds as the melted USS Arizona was to a generation of older Americans.
Never Forget!

Thanks so much for posting this. I was not aware of this tape--which makes me wonder, how many are? Backhoe, thanks for your link!

I plugged in video tapes once i heard of the second crash. Katie Kouric and Tom Brokaw werent even paying attention to the screen for either of the collapses, Matt Lauer had to tell them while they were talking. On the second collapse, they almost missed it again. I have been viewing the tape the last couple days to post something interesting on my home page

Francis X. Gribbon, a spokesman for the department, said that both fire officials
and the F.B.I. have a copy of the tape.
For the Fire Department, it will be part investigative tool and part historical artifact.
I'm not a lawyer, but I wonder if a "Freedom of Information" act might
extract a copy of this video from the F.B.I.
I respect those who argue that someone wanting to see this sort of video has a morbid
fascination with the events of 9-11.
But going with the maxim of "the truth shall make ye free", I can't help but think
that a general release of this 90 minute video (with appropriate added commentary
on the time-line and details) would be the greatest testimony to the bravery of the
NYC firefighters, police, and other officials.
As well as showing why the country had very little doubt that the responsible parties
needed to be hunted down and caught (or killed).

It begins at the corner of Lispenard and Church Streets, where Jules Naudet, the filmmaker making a documentary about the training of a probationary firefighter, is taping Battalion Chief Joe Pfeifer responding to a report of a gas leak under the street. After a meter reading is taken, the roar of a plane is heard. The camera pans up to follow the path of the plane as it rams the north tower. There are expletives and flames and smoke.
That sounds exactly like a video clip that I viewed on the net--it's probably still out there (I think I found it on some news broadcast website).

"he wants to turn the tape into a documentary and give it to the families of the dead"
If it were my family member, I'm not sure I would want to see it; to know how horrible it was ...

Thank you for the post.
Just a mere 16 weeks after 9/11, and it is barely a blip on the news anymore.
I am sure that there are still people in the hospital or those who are still recovering from their injuries from the attacks in NY and in Washington. Why don't we hear stories about these victims?
We must never forget. Our children, grandchildren and generations to come must know the horror that was brought to American on September 11, 2001.
