I believe it is 1 Samuel 15 that is the Biblical justification for attacking Ashcanistan. It tells of how God told the Israelites to destroy everything in Ammon because the Ammonites had ambushed them on the road (I believe these are the correct peoples, I will research it later and repost it if I am wrong).
