"You got me plum-hypnotized," Elmer Gantry says to Sister Sharon Falconer in that film/novel.
Is that the case with me over Joyce Meyer?
She seems pretty good at down-home preachin'. And while not a classic beauty, she yet ministers out a fair amount sex appeal, along with the word.
(I think, ultimately, it's those Texas/Missouri eyes.)
I post this to philosophy since, as I know she has a fair amount of, at least internet detractors, it yet seems that her ability to project the Word, is as anchored in the integrity of faith as any other TV preacher I can recall.
...Except perhaps the late Bishop Fulton J Sheen.
In short though, Meyer lately fascinates me, and I'm curious what other Freepers may think. Particularly Evangelicals!
Thanks, and Merry Christmas to All!

Powder..Patch..Ball FIRE!!
Yeah she is a believer.. As well as a human can see another persons heart, I know she loves the Lord and is trying to serve Him. Is she perfect? No - who is? Her ministry is popular because it helps people, and people relate to her because of the things she went through in her own life that God has helped her with. She passes those lessons on to others. Life in the Word tithes over 20% of all it recieves to ministries all over the world and believe me that is a LOT of money....

I've been dragged to the idea that any woman who isn't constantly trying to change a man, isn't worth a damn.

Personally, I have been really blessed by Kay Arthur. She does teach a "personal holiness" type of message, having a pure heart, etc. I also am blessed by Joyce Green from Texas, who is the widow of Milton Green who taught in the 1980's.

Gee, are you a woman?

I've been dragged to the idea that any woman who isn't constantly trying to change a man, isn't worth a damn. But that's why women are so discontented, in my humble womanly opinion. Granted, I have a WONDERFUL husband, but I was most miserable when I was trying to turn him into the ideal husband, and when I stopped trying to control him, I walked in alot more peace.
Now, my brother in law, on the other hand, could use some changing.

You have somewhat helped the cause of Joyce supporters in my opinion.
Both man and woman would fare better if they concentrated on their own Biblical duties to the other rather than their partners duties!

would be like God.
Isn't that what a lot of the word faith doctrine is about? Don't they teach that you are god with a small g?
I am not saying Joyce teaches that, I don't know. I watch her show when I can and enjoy it actually. But I do know that she got her start with the Hagen/Copeland group, and wonder if she has the same theology.

Well, I really like women. My wife and daughter are women.
I spent two very fulfilling years as one of only two men in a woman's study group, until the old double standard that emerged during the LewClintonsky made me gradually persona non grata.
A learning experience, for sure....
Yeah. I'm a man.

To be fair, the poster of this thread did ask for other's opinions of Joyce, and this person is just expressing his/hers.
There are a lot of diverse opinions in Christianity, like it or not.
What is important is that we all accept Christ as our Savior, the rest is a matter of doctrine and tradition isn't it?
I wish Believers wouldn't argue among themselves so much, it doesn't paint a pretty picture for others.

First she changed me. Then she stopped trying to control me. Hence now, I am truly free!

Both man and woman would fare better if they concentrated on their own Biblical duties to the other rather than their partners duties! Agreed!
Now, if my husband and I are in disagreement about something, I have to admit that I might be wrong. So, instead of arguing, I just ask God to change my heart or change his heart.
One thing I disagree with a lot of modern teachers on is the "nobody's perfect" opinion. I think that makes striving for a pure heart optional and I don't think scripture teaches that. By pure heart, I mean an undivided heart -- not divided in loyalty between God and .. whatever.

Faith does take energy and focus. To me, it's far easier to go to a dentist to get a filling than it is to fight the fight of faith on THAT ISSUE. But the bottom line is if you are right, the God is a liar because He said "With [Jesus'] stripes ye were healed," and He said His name is Jehovah the healing God.
So does that mean that with enough faith you'll never die?

You sound like a true bible believer...nobody rightly divides THE BOOK anymore, they wrongly divide it.Acts 17:11 "...search the scriptures daily to find out whether these things are so."
See post 60. I didn't want to be argumentative but she kept pressing and I cannot allow blantant scripture twisting. Satan did that to Jesus in the desert. took quotes straight out of context. I know God can not lie and I know He cannot learn; and theologians debate on whether He forces one to believe(election).
I do know if sheople didn't just buy everything those health and wealth teachers say, they may actually mature. I wonder if Price's sheople know his wife was treated for pelvic cancer in a hospital, what didn't he have enough faith? Bless their hearts, that teaching is so damaging to folks who are really hurting.

"Also, the bible states that a women is not to preach because Eve was the one deceived, not Adam. "The bible state that a woman is not to have authority over a man. Women have taught and will continue to to teach. It is scriptural. If your AV 1611 tells you different I would suggest you find a translation you can understand." Acts 2:18 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: (KJV) "
Get yourself a good concordance and look up the word "prophesy" in that verse. I would be very carefull passing judgement on one of Gods children unless I was absolutly sure she was wrong . A carefull study of the scriptures would put you as the one in error.
Your condemnation of this woman seems to come from your scriptural ignorance, not hers." Rom 14:4 4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. (KJV) "
Having what you think is the only true translation of Gods word doesn't make you right. You still have to understand what your reading.

We are so "soft" in this country and I fear most "Christians" will head for the door when times get rough
You just explained why the Rapture theory is so popular among many Christians - the whole fantasy of God being the great "Calgon, take me away". Toil, trouble, persecution, oh no, not for ME! I'm driving my Range Rover to soccer practice, when things get tough God will zap me away and let the car crash into some pathetic lost soul.
