[history]
Federal and state wildlife biologists planted false evidence of a rare cat species in two national forests, officials told The Washington Times.
Had the deception not been discovered, the government likely would have banned many forms of recreation and use of natural resources in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Wenatchee National Forest in Washington state.

If I were Dictator For Life, the ecofreak organizations these ecofreaks belong to would be the victims of a RICO prosecution, and all members would be sentenced to roustabouting in the ANWR oilfields on 500 calories a day for a period of 10 years or until death.

Amazing story? Not really.
They just got caught "doing what everyone else does" didn't they?
I can think of that context in many ways. I bet you can too.
If it were any organization, choose any R&D company that readily comes to mind, other than the .gov, those people would be fired in a heartbeat.
Instead..."Bad dog...baaad dog!"
That "finger shaking" and "mean voice" really works.

I would submit since they now have evidence that the envirornmental survey system they have for determining the presence of endangered species has been shown to be subject to manipulation then every such survey must be subject to major doubt.

When the Vail Ski Resort announced an expansion of trails into possible lynx habitat, the radical animal-rights group Earth Liberation Front (ELF) torched five buildings and four ski lifts in protest. The Oct. 18, 1998, fire caused $12 million in damage and was the largest act of eco-terrorism in the United States. No arrests were made, and the statute of limitations expired in October. Thanks for bringing that up. In that case, the evidence of the Lynx is based upon sighting a pawprint in 1976.
Also, you can take satisfaction in knowing that the insurance built a bigger, better Two Elk Lodge.
Unfortunately, Vail Resorts is suffering from greedy mismanagement. The CEO of Vail Resorts and the President of Vail Associates have taken millions in stock options while rescinding the pay raise for the staff because of 9/11/01. This while they fired just about every supervisor I know and replaced them with lower paid people from another ski area. I hope the stock tanks.

I would like to know a lot more about where organizations like ELF get their funding. In this particular case, it would be interesting to know 1) if the government employees involved belonged to any radical environmental groups, and 2) if they were promised any remuneration or had any other financial interests that would benefit by more restrictive environmental regulations.

The Oct. 18, 1998, fire caused $12 million in damage and was the largest act of eco-terrorism in the United States. No arrests were made, and the statute of limitations expired in October. This past summer, ELF planted spikes in hundreds of trees to sabotage a timber sale and protect the lynx and spotted owls in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest one of the forests where the false samples were planted.
Not only did they commit acts of terrorism, but as it turns out, they based their acts on phony info. I wonder if ELF will now apologize and pay for damages.
And I think I'll watch hell freeze over.

Something seems to be wrong with the search engine. - I did a search and found only this article, although both threads had the words "rare lynx" that I used to search.
To: editor-surveyor
And how many others were not caught? The ones who need to be caught and thrown in jail are the "head-of-the-snake" bureaucrats who worked the initial hoax of listing the lynx as endangered.

"This should be front page news!" But we know it won't be!
This is truly a case where the truth would set us free.
To: Grampa Dave
Absolutely. I have posted when those who hate GW 24/7 and are not liberals to blame him for actions like these, YOU CAN'T FIRE OR SHOT FEDERAL EMPLOYEES!) Uh, excuse me Dave, but do you remember how the Spotted Owl was fraudulently listed under the ESA after twelve consecutive years of Republican presidents? You do remember that GHWB was "The Environmental President" and appointed the people who hired the minions who perpetrated that act?
So what IS the alternative to government management? Do you have one, Dave? I do.
To: editor-surveyor
Absolutely stuning how low an ELF will stoop to promote it's agenda. These morons should be canned, not "counseled" and then fined for the costs associated witht heir fraud. To bad there isn't a "filing a false report" statute that could be applied to them.

If your talking about the search engine in the box, I know what you mean. Have you used the new, experimental search engine? Click on the Search button next to the self search button. It seems to do a better job, especially on older articles.

So, these criminals didn't even lose their jobs? And, we don't get to find out their names? What ever happened to accountability?

This (and similar acts by government employees) are no less serious than terrorist acts committed by foreign terrorists. Although the initial body count doesn't match the 9/11 acts, the ongoing damage to American families and the overall economy will affect many millions of people for many years to come.
If these creeps were robbing banks in uniform, would the bureaucrats still protect them from prosecution and publicity? According to above reasoning, the answer is yes.
In a sense, they have robbed more than banks. They have stolen the potential to create wealth from the timber, mining, and ranching industries, and by extension, from all the individuals who depended on those industries for their livlihood.
They should be hanged.

You know that 99% of those working for those departments then and now were of one political party! If you deny that, then all of your theories are bogus!
Who controlled the senate and house during those years? You know that, and should stop skating around this as a scientist who documents with facts!

Huh? Yes, it's true. Abortionist's do perform abortions on women who are not pregnant. When the test is negative they will tell the woman that she is pregnant when she is not, perform an abortion and charge her for an abortion. I doesn't happen a lot but it does happen. Just think of the women who are guilt-striken for years afterwards when they weren't even pregnant. Environ-wacko's faking the habitat of a linx outside it's known range seems kind of tame by comparison.
