''Over time, drugs rob men, women and children of their dignity and of their character,'' Bush said. And we'll be happy to help them avoid such a tragic fate by throwing them in jail.

Great, the war on freedom is stepping up. GRRR.
BTW - For the Drug Warriors, I'm NOT equating drugs with freedom. I'll say that again so you understand. I'm NOT equating drugs with freedom. It's the Jack booted thugs I'm equating with the war on freedom.

Do drug users realize they're subsidizing terrorist?
How can we undermine drug profits, decrease drug usage, and help those hooked on drugs? Anyone?

Bush offered a new argument in the fight against drugs while signing a bill to expand a federal anti-drug program over the next five years.Unconstitutional.

''Over time, drugs rob men, women and children of their dignity and of their character,'' Bush said.
''Illegal drugs are the enemies of ambition and hope and when we fight against drugs we fight for the souls of our fellow Americans.'' Well said, President Bush!

Want to cut off funding for the terrorists and drug cartels? It's a simple solution, W. Legalize and choke off the black market. As a nice side benefit, legalization would save billions in law-enforcement funds that could better be used to find the real criminals, the ones that blow people up instead of the users of unpopular chemicals.

Sigh. Traffic in booze funded organized crime, the terrorists of the 20s and 30s. I'm glad Bush in in the Oval Office rather than Gore, but he needs to review that famous Santayana quote.

...it's important for Americans to know that trafficking of drugs finances the world of terror, sustaining terrorists... Gee, George, I wonder why drug trafficking is so profitable for terrorists. Could it be that the illegality of drugs makes it such a profitable enterprise for thugs? Is that why they don't traffic in legal substances like alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine? And aren't you the same George W. Bush that awarded the Taliban $45 million earlier this year for destroying poppy fields?

...drugs rob men, women and children of their dignity and of their character,'' Bush said. Sure they do, George. Why, just the other day I saw a marijuana plant snatch a woman's purse, take the shirt right off a kid's back, and forcibly extract all of the rationality from the leader of the free world. It must be the new high potency strains that are being developed.

I'd like to see someone with a cocaine addict for a friend use this argument. "Hey, stop using that cocaine! You're helping terrorists!" After the cocaine user stopped laughing...
Try something similar. Tell a smoker he should quit because growing tobacco uses pesticides. Tell an alcoholic he should quit because Jamaican rum is made by oppressed workers.
The other posters have it right. If you want drug profits to stop going to criminals and terrorists, bring drugs within the law. Then the money goes to companies not unlike RJ Reynolds and Anheiser-Busch. I haven't noticed Auggie Busch funding any suicidal terrorists.

"Over time, drugs rob men, women and children of their dignity and of their character," Bush said. Mr. President, would America be better off if you had gone to jail for your drug use?

Over time, drugs rob men, women and children of their dignity and of their character, Bush said Hundreds of thousands of times every year, the gov't. destroys the lives of hard-working, tax-paying recreational drug users, robbing them of their property, their liberty and sometimes their life.
'Our' gov't has been fighting a declared, brutal war against a large percentage of us for many years. Heck, if the taliban was exclusively targeting the gov't, I'd be pulling for THEM!

Those who make it unlawful to use drugs that could be sold through legitimate business channels are the greatest allies that the terrorists could have.

''Drug abuse threatens everything, everything that is best about our country,'' he said. ''It breaks the bond between parent and child. It turns productive citizens into addicts. It transforms schools into places of violence and chaos. It makes playgrounds into crime scenes. It supports gangs at home.''
This statement is absolutley true. Drugs are not a "victimless" crime. Like most things though, the average person has a hard time understanding this unless they have had personal experience with it...

re : WASHINGTON (AP) President Bush said Friday that drug users aid terrorists who get their money from global trafficking in narcotics.
This is not a new fact, it is very well known, there has always been a link between Terrorists/freedom fighters/insurgents and drugs but should we forget the middle men, the chaps who helped grease certain wheels, aided the logistics step forward those brave men from the various Intelligence Agencies.
A certain intelligence Agency in the 1980s was deeply involved in the international trafficking of the addictive drugs heroin and cocaine, the enormous profits from which finance covert illegal operations and various South American military.
By the end of the 1980's it was calculated that the illegal use of drugs in the a certain country now netted its controllers over $110 billion a year, money well used to fight terrorists!! and fund freedom fighters .
I am confused should it not be that it is patriotic to take drugs.
Cheers Tony

President Bush said Friday that drug users aid terrorists who get their money from global trafficking in narcotics. ''If you quit drugs, you join the fight against terrorism,'' he said. What if we use heroin grown by the Northern Alliance? Does that count as fighting FOR democracy?
