You know, I'm sure this is the third crazy political proposal for the trifecta of stupidity that we have all been waiting for from the great state of Maryland. Should we lay money that the woman who said this is from Montgomery County MD.

Give it a rest. States have been issuing drivers licenses for about 90 years. If any state wants to include additional information to make sure that their licenses are secure and cannot be easly forged or falsely acquired, that is entirely in accord with the role of a state under the federal Constitution. Anyone who doesn't want that infornation obtained and placed on a license is welcome to refuse to get a license. The Bill of Rights does not guarantee you the right to drive a car. Or for that matter, to own a car -- it's a matter of freedom of choice and working to earn the money. I don't see these as the precursors of Jackboots in the halls.

"...the de facto national ID card..." ===========================================
What about the Older/Younger generation(s) that are, either, incapable or unwilling to drive and do not have a License ??
....or, just the people who choose not to drive ??

Bush put that into effect here in Texas before he left. Thumb prints and verified SS Number are required to renew or get a DL. Police have computer access to thumb prints from a data base.
When I raised heck with my state Senator, Jane Nelson, she said she was against it at first, but Bush told her he wanted it to collect child support from deadbeat dads (for the children), so she went along.

Heres the sticky part though. Know why you need a drivers license? to drive on
public roads. Thats all. End of story. If you wanted to build your own
private road, you could legally drive up and down it all day long and not need any license whatsoever.
So this gets to the heart of the question, do you have the right to drive? yeah absolutely. Just not on public roads. The reason you need a license is to use roads paid for by taxpayer money. Maybe another question that needs to be asked, is does any agency have the right to tax me for building a road, then not allow me to use it? Rhetorical question maybe but its worth thinking about.
I agree with you though. I actually tend to support some kind of process to help verify ID's. This may be a good idea, or it may not. Only time will tell nobody knows, but I tend to think its a good thing.

As soon as you click on it and it loads as you see a developed window, hit the "X" on your brower to stop it from loading another blank screen.
For some reason as soon as it loads it automaticly loads another blank screen/address.
The was also another joint US-Canada Announcement on a website about the 2 nations working together for "security" involving biometrics that kept coming up blank; and I couldn't get it to load no matter how I tried.
