Elizabeth Dole Sent Me a Letter Asking For Money
Elizabeth Dole Campaign

Posted on 12/03/2001 10:30:21 AM PST by Recovering_Democrat

Received today (December 3, 2001), dated November 21, 2001. The text of the letter follows:

Dear (Recovering Democrat),

I want you to be one of the first to know. I am asking the good people of North Carolina for the honor of representing them in United States Senate.

I have come to this conclusion after talking to many people across North Carolina, after much prayer, and of course, after talking it over with my family. I am honored and humbled by the support and encouragement I've received.

Let me be clear: I am running for the Senate because I want to make a difference for the people of North Carolina. And I want to continue the tradition of conservative leadership that Jesse Helms started thirty years ago.

With your help, I can win this race and keep Jesse Helms' seat in Republican hands. Control of the United States Seante and the future of President Bush's agenda are at stake.

Will you join me?

Please help me kickoff my campaign by joining my "Elizabeth Dole Senate Team" as a Charter member with a contribution of $75 or $50.

Your financial support as a Charter Memember is critically important. If $75 or $50 are more than you feel comfortable with at this time, I hope you will send a smaller contribution in whatever amount you can.

I want to kickoff my campaign with as much political and financial strength as possible, so it is important for every supporter and friend to pitch in and help.

You see, the liberal speical interests have targeted this race as one of their best opportunities to gain a seat. That's right. They think they can put Jesse Helms' seat in the liberal column in 2002.

What's most important to me is the effect the outcome of this race will have on the everyday lives of the people I know here in Salisbury and across North Carolina.

The other day, I was discussing my candidacy with my 100-year old mother, Mary Hanford. As we drove around our neighborhood, past the apartment where my parents lived when they were first married, by my dad's and grandfather's business, and past my alma mater, Salisbury High, we talked about all the truly remarkable people here and across North Carolina who have personally and forever touched our lives.

It reminded me of how, when I was serving under Presidents Nixon, Reagan and Bush, I've always thought of my hometown as a touchstone--a place where real people live and work, and where the policies made in Washington touch people's lives.

And, it reminded me of the folks I've talked with recently as I've crossed North Carolina. The small business owners, farmers, parents and retirees I've spoken with are concerned about our future. They are concerned abou the quality of their children's education, about jobs and health care, about their retirement, and about the economy.

There is so much at stake for North Carolina and America. We need leaders in Washington who have strength of character, core values and a common-sense conservatism.

If I'm fortunate enought to become North Carolina's U.S. Senator, I will fight for issues that will protect and imporve our quality of life. AS your Senator, I will fight for better educational opportunities for our children, greater access to quality health care, and a growing economy with low taxes--and more important than ever, a strong and modern military capable of defending us from the new threats we face in the 21st Century.

To win this election I need your help. Please join my Dole for Senate Team today as a Charter Member and help us kick-off this campaign with the greatest strength we can muster.

Your generous financial support will be used to lay the foundation for an effective campaign. Most experts agree that this Senate race will be very expensive. In the coming weeks, I will meet with my top advisors to set our budget goals for the campaign, but I expect we will need to raise $6-8 millino for this race.

So please, let me know that you are with mei nthis important cause. Send back your reply today. And, if you can, please include a contribution to help provide the seed money for this campaign.

I am looking forward to a vigorous campaign, and I hope I can count on your support from the very beginning. Thank you.

With warmest regards,

(signature)

Elizabeth Dole

P.S. With your help, we'll win this election and continue Jesse Helms' 30-year tradition of conservative leadership in the U.S. Senate for at least another six years. But we must begin building our grassroots team across North Carolina today. So please make it official. Join my Elizabeth Dole for Senate Team by sending back the enclosed reply and your financial contribution today. Thank you!

You keep thinking like that ("they're not so bad", "they're not as bad as the Clintons") and what happens? Sometimes they get elected.

Then what do you have? Doles. Not freedom-loving Americans. Doles.

And the Republican party is thereby convinced "Doles are good enough". Well, screw that. They are NOT.

This wasn't meant as a slam on Liddy, as much as a lampoon of fundraising letters. I would suggest that you study more about Bob Dole and realize that Liddy is simply a cheap knock off of him.

As individuals I don't have a problem with either of them. As politicians, I don't want them anywhere near public office.

I should also state that I think Liddy Dole has quite a bit to answer for when it comes the Blood Scandle, although I have not followed that story very well.

ANOTHER PUBBIE JOKE

"GOING AGAINST YOUR GUNS"
Date: 05-08-1999;
Publication: ABC World News Saturday;

AARON BROWN:

Guns and what to do about them are starting to look like an important issue in the early phase of the presidential campaign. Elizabeth Dole this week began using the issue of gun control, not usually associated with Republicans, as a way to set herself apart. Here's ABC's John Cochran.

JOHN COCHRAN, ABC News:

(voice-over) Suddenly, Elizabeth Dole has become the in-your-face Republican on gun control, sounding almost like -- good grief -- a Democrat.

ELIZABETH DOLE:

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I don't think you need an AK-47 to defend your family.
And I do believe in the ban on assault weapons.
I also favor safety locks, yes, safety locks on guns to protect our children.

Well, I live in Western NC (Hickory to be precise) and have been involved in GOP campaigns since 1978, and I consider myself a strong and committed Conservative. I admit I am skeptical about Elizabeth Dole's change in regards to gun control and even more concerned about her stance on abortion. However, I am currently willing to listen to her views and give her a chance. This is going to be an incredibly hard fought campaign and much money is going to be spent.

It is difficult for a Republican to win a statewide office in this state. We have only had 2 GOP governors in over a hundred years and with the exception of Sen. Helms and the late Sen. John East we traditionally sent Democrats to the Senate. I have always respected Mrs. Dole and one thing is for sure, in order for a Republican to win he/she will have to appeal to conservative Democrats in the eastern part of NC.

The one thing that I can assure the rest of this country is that if Mrs. Dole was currently a US Senator she would have never pulled the stunt that Jumpin' Jim Jeffords did, that I can assure you.

OK, I'll try another tack, now that I've been upbraided by all those who obviously know more about her than I do. Assuming Mrs. Dole gets the nomination, would you vote for her Democratic counterpart or her?

I realize that this is kind of a cop-out example, but I just want to confirm that the animus against her is not so great that people would crawl over broken glass to vote Democrat just to spite her.

If I lived in North Carolina, she would have my vote. I have freinds there, who claim to be moderate or independent. They are certainly independent in the way that they vote. In fact I believe the majority of voters are in this catagory, thus they chose to vote or not vote. Not many hard line party members anywhere, anymore. I believe in the conservative issues and in a state like N.C., that is getting more liberal, any conservative who can get in that Senate is desperately needed. I would be interested knowing from her where she stands on the issues that we concern ourselves with at this time, economy, war, homeland security, energy, etc. Just listening to the "so called drilling debate" on the senate floor, hildebeast just stood up to debate, so I had to turn her off. This bill does not have a chance, too bad, since Murchowski has been addressing this issue for months. Daschle is a meanspirited jerk, as well as Jeffords..........

Though I personally would trust Libby Dole as far as I could you-know-what into a high wind, she's the only Rep on the horizon who has a chance against any black-leftist-whatever mendacious slitherer the Dems offer. Her support of a woman's right to choose to murder her unborn children is key. The Kid.

"Assuming Mrs. Dole gets the nomination, would you vote for her Democratic counterpart or her? "

If the Democrat was as liberal as Dole, would vote for Dole---but if the Democrat was much more conservative than Dole (and was solidly against gun control), I would vote for the Democrat (However, I am in Texas). ( I believe Liddy would vote with McCain).

What a sad state NC has become. We have John "500 inch eyelashes" Edwards ( He seems somewhat feminine to me) and Liz Dole vs Erskine Bowles. YUCK!!!

Bob and Liddy - Two of a kind. I wouldn't back either of them in a primary race. Over John Edwards, yes, but I'd be holding my nose.
