Elizabeth Dole Sent Me a Letter Asking For Money
Elizabeth Dole Campaign

Posted on 12/03/2001 10:30:21 AM PST by Recovering_Democrat

Received today (December 3, 2001), dated November 21, 2001. The text of the letter follows:

Dear (Recovering Democrat),

I want you to be one of the first to know. I am asking the good people of North Carolina for the honor of representing them in United States Senate.

I have come to this conclusion after talking to many people across North Carolina, after much prayer, and of course, after talking it over with my family. I am honored and humbled by the support and encouragement I've received.

Let me be clear: I am running for the Senate because I want to make a difference for the people of North Carolina. And I want to continue the tradition of conservative leadership that Jesse Helms started thirty years ago.

With your help, I can win this race and keep Jesse Helms' seat in Republican hands. Control of the United States Seante and the future of President Bush's agenda are at stake.

Will you join me?

Please help me kickoff my campaign by joining my "Elizabeth Dole Senate Team" as a Charter member with a contribution of $75 or $50.

Your financial support as a Charter Memember is critically important. If $75 or $50 are more than you feel comfortable with at this time, I hope you will send a smaller contribution in whatever amount you can.

I want to kickoff my campaign with as much political and financial strength as possible, so it is important for every supporter and friend to pitch in and help.

You see, the liberal speical interests have targeted this race as one of their best opportunities to gain a seat. That's right. They think they can put Jesse Helms' seat in the liberal column in 2002.

What's most important to me is the effect the outcome of this race will have on the everyday lives of the people I know here in Salisbury and across North Carolina.

The other day, I was discussing my candidacy with my 100-year old mother, Mary Hanford. As we drove around our neighborhood, past the apartment where my parents lived when they were first married, by my dad's and grandfather's business, and past my alma mater, Salisbury High, we talked about all the truly remarkable people here and across North Carolina who have personally and forever touched our lives.

It reminded me of how, when I was serving under Presidents Nixon, Reagan and Bush, I've always thought of my hometown as a touchstone--a place where real people live and work, and where the policies made in Washington touch people's lives.

And, it reminded me of the folks I've talked with recently as I've crossed North Carolina. The small business owners, farmers, parents and retirees I've spoken with are concerned about our future. They are concerned abou the quality of their children's education, about jobs and health care, about their retirement, and about the economy.

There is so much at stake for North Carolina and America. We need leaders in Washington who have strength of character, core values and a common-sense conservatism.

If I'm fortunate enought to become North Carolina's U.S. Senator, I will fight for issues that will protect and imporve our quality of life. AS your Senator, I will fight for better educational opportunities for our children, greater access to quality health care, and a growing economy with low taxes--and more important than ever, a strong and modern military capable of defending us from the new threats we face in the 21st Century.

To win this election I need your help. Please join my Dole for Senate Team today as a Charter Member and help us kick-off this campaign with the greatest strength we can muster.

Your generous financial support will be used to lay the foundation for an effective campaign. Most experts agree that this Senate race will be very expensive. In the coming weeks, I will meet with my top advisors to set our budget goals for the campaign, but I expect we will need to raise $6-8 millino for this race.

So please, let me know that you are with mei nthis important cause. Send back your reply today. And, if you can, please include a contribution to help provide the seed money for this campaign.

I am looking forward to a vigorous campaign, and I hope I can count on your support from the very beginning. Thank you.

With warmest regards,

(signature)

Elizabeth Dole

P.S. With your help, we'll win this election and continue Jesse Helms' 30-year tradition of conservative leadership in the U.S. Senate for at least another six years. But we must begin building our grassroots team across North Carolina today. So please make it official. Join my Elizabeth Dole for Senate Team by sending back the enclosed reply and your financial contribution today. Thank you!

Standard fundraising fare. Interesting she judiciously uses Helms' name--Jesse won 5 elections to the Senate, but almost always the races were very close.

I read in the Washington Post that E. Dole has also changed her anti-gun stance, apparently based on what she's heard from North Carolina sheriffs.

And, last but not least, the "contribution" form that came with the letter says at the bottom:

"Learn more about the Elizabeth Dole Campaign
by calling 1-866-443-6304
or visiting us on the web at www.elizabethdole.com"

So I go to the web site, but there's nothing there. Weird.

Thoughts/opinions/etc. welcome.

My suggested response:

Dear Ms. Dole:

Hi, my name is _____. I live in _____. I work hard for a living. My wife ( and children if applicable ) and I barely make ends meet. We would like to ask you if you could see your way clear to donate funds to help us through life.

We are good members of our community. We donate a portion of our time and money to local charity events and we pay a considerable amount of taxes.

We will be competing again for local citizen of the year awards in our local community. I'm sure you'll agree this is a worthy cause.

I'm sure you recieve many requests for support, especially during this time of the year, but our chances for becoming citizens of the year depend on the donations of people like you. Please send what you can, no matter how small it may seem to you.

$5___ $10___ $25___ $50___ $100___ $250___ $500___ $1000___ $5000___ $10000___ $25000___ Other___

Thank you for your support.

You're absolutely correct. For decades, the Doles have been dumping laws, rules and regulations upon We The People that have cost us untold tens of billions of dollars and infinite lost opportunities. They are standard-issue Big Government East-Coast Politician Parasites who keep trying to pass themselves off as the opposite.

OldBob Dole would have done much less damage to his country had he never returned from Italy in the 40s. Harsh? Maybe, but accurate; he's just a parasite who rose to sufficient levels of power to really cost his fellow countrymen bigtime.

Dear Liddy --

I "really liked" the way you strongarmed all the states into raising the drinking ages by threatening to yank their Federal Highway Funds. Kindly go piss up a rope.

OK, I give up. What's so bad about Elizabeth Dole? And what's so bad about fundraising? Last time I checked, it wasn't illegal. And she seemed very polite about it, so what's the real gripe?

Personally, I like her. She's one of those people that doesn't scream out "I'm a woman! Don't you dare treat me like one, though!". She just seems like a decent, honorable human being, like her husband. Compare to Hillary, if you dare. Although I have probably offended Mrs. Dole by merely uttering the name of the junior Senator from New York within a million words of Mrs. Dole's name.

Dear Liddy,

Sorry, but I just used the last of my funds for this month buying another case of 7.62 x 39 Russian ammo for use in my several AK 47's. I find these units are perfect for hunting small predators which may try to invade my home. Sorry you disagree; I also need some of my hard-earned money to renew my North Carolina Concealed Carry permit which the state legislature, in its wisdom, has put into law so that I and my fellow citizens can enjoy the practise of our Second Amendment rights, which you think need more regulation.

I appreciate this opportunity to communicate my thoughts on your worthless campaign, FY very much.

Sincerely,

Liddy Dole is just another statist trying to appear like a conservative Constitutionalist. When she was Secretary of Transportation in the Reagan Admin, she wanted to ban the sale of motorcycles with engines larger than 400 cc, because she said they were, "too powerful". That's all I need to know about Liddy Dole.
