The Time article:
I can see the Headlines now " Man Splattered on IT after Headon Collision With Amish Vehicle (Horse O.K.)
It happens to a statistically significant number of folks who fall in the shower each year, too, but that's not to say that I'd want to wear a helmet there.
Mostly the politicians. Not a surprise considering that 90% of congresspersons are lawyers and that's who empowers the lawyers.
Along with the Altair in 1975, and the IMSAI and Sol-20 in 1976.
LOL. Don't worry about it, the lawyers and congresspersons that empower them will make it illegal to ride one in winds over 5mph.
The horseless carriage has grown a bit fatter since then, hasn't it? Had Henry's invention not progressed beyond the slow, open box with motor and wheels it would have remained a toy.
I'll bet that Mr. Ford did darn little Detroit winter driving in his original automobile.
I can only speak of potentials because useful nanotechnology is still at least ten years out. Groceries/food is manufactured at home. What happens to groceries stores? Will they be revolutionized or obsolete? If not home manufacturing of food, perhaps grocery stores will manufacture the food? What happens to today's food supply chain? So maybe people will still have need to go to the grocery store for food, but I doubt it. Transportation to the store? A solar-cell absorption layer coated on Canada's major roadways covered by a coating that is a hundred times stronger than steel at one sixth the weight could produce enough electricity to power the world at today's usage. Electric vehicles will be the norm if road-vehicles are still used for transportation? For more distant travel needs underground/tunnel transportation will whisk the traveler at speeds greater mach1. But that encroaches more on air transportation than road vehicles. How's that? Want more? Peruse this Web site: http://www.nanozine.com/
In what way is walking better in these conditions?
One can carry an umbrella that will keep most, if not all, of the rain, snow, or sleet out of one's face. Not so at 17MPH. A face full of cold rain under such conditions sounds a bit unpleasant.
Ginger should be ideal transportation for Hawaii, Southern California, and other temperate populous areas though.
Why leave home at all? The same end could be achieved by buying groceries online in a virtual supermarket, thus eliminating the "go to the store and come home emptyhanded" step.
To enable the rider to better survive pedestrian/Ginger collisions unscathed, of course. ;-)
You must be a newbie. Otherwise you would have known well at the difficulty in expressing sarcasm. I just checked your profile page and see that you're not new to the Internet -- been on this forum for a few days shy of a year. Who knows how long prior to that. Anyways, apparently you chose to make it hard on yourself by assuming that it is the reader's responsibility to guess at what you mean rather than you being more articulate in your writing.
Hmmm... Red blooded American? So you're an American Indian. That sure spells 2nd Amendment -- not. Who are you trying to fool? ...Besides yourself, that is. DOH
According to the company's website, IT uses NiCd or Nickel Metal hydride batteries. In other words, nothing special.
Think Visicalc, an application that ran only on the Apple. Before the IBM PC became a success, the Apple II was the office computer of choice, simply because it ran this spreadsheet.
Considering their humble start, I'd say Jobs and Woz were wildly successful.
