You're right, I hadn't thought of that aspect of it. In mentioning the 'little rascal' type of vehicle, I was thinking more of the people that use them but don't need to for any sound mediacal reason. And there are a lot of people that do.

I can't understand why you'd need a helmet. I mean, it's self-balancing right? It won't fall over, and you won't get hurt, the inventor said so. {\sarcasm}

LOL In the 'hood, where I teach ... I can only imagine how long one of those would last, left at the curbside! Maybe they'll install Lojack in all of them!

"...up and down...bar code reader..."Or maybe the elderly/shut ins/infirm shop for groceries over the internet and a kid delivers them...

MY legs, and heart are underperforming. I would be a prime target market for this. I cannot walk for more than a few minutes. But STANDING is about just as big of a problem. I'm sure you wouldn't want to deny this for use by those who can stand but not walk.
A mile every 6 minutes? Pretty good.
I could go 3 miles in the time it takes me to walk 1 mile.
I'm going to check out the Segway interactive web page now.

Or maybe the elderly/shut ins/infirm shop for groceries over the internet and a kid delivers themThat is good, too. Some elderly might like to get out to the store sometimes and shop from home others. Like the rest of us.

EVERY FAILED product EVER invented can make that same argument. and so can some runaway best 'cellers.'

From the
Nothing New Under the Sun category:
July 5, 1908 , New York Times:
New Gyroscope Car To Be Seen Here
Novelly Constructed Automobile
Will Shortly Appear in
New York Market.
Flywheel On New Principle
Supposed to Produce Steadier Running
and to Permit of High Speed
Without Danger of Overturning
I ain't kidding. Look it up.
(btw. just below that article is, "Warning of Speed Traps" -- that's a news service I, for one, miss...)
(Had this up on another thread late last nite; sorry for repeat, but thought you a.m. people would enjoy it, too )

I can't understand why you'd need a helmet. A lot of elderly folks would do better to wear helmets when they are walking. Some are in nursing homes because they fell and hit their heads.
BTW I don't like the idea of the state saying people have to wear helmets. I wonder if helmets will be required for the IT riders?

It's ridiculous to think that people who are too weak to walk will lift these things in and out of their cars. If they are that weak they will use WHEELCHAIRS and conserve their strength.Who said they will have to lift them in and out of vans with hydraulic lifts?
Many (minimally?)handicapped people will love this freedom to cover distances as quickly as a cross country runner, I am sure.

I need to get into the Law practice and make money of these bozosYou probably think that guns( objects) kill people. Get real. Guns don't kill people. People kill people. You give lawyers a bad name. Obviously you think it's "peachy keen" to sue gun manufactures when people get killed by guns. But they desreve it for not self-policing their own. IOW, there not all bad apples but they sure allowed a heck of alot of them to remain in their industry/profession.
