FEC lawyers recommend giving Dems break on soft-money rules to make up for slow fund raising after attacks

No doubt they are VERY ANGRY at Republicans for having somewhat better luck raising funds.

Thank G-d for that nonpartisan FEC! We really should put them completely in control of all political speech, like Senator McCainiac wants.

FEC attorneys are recommending that the commission grant the Democratic National Committee's request for a break on a ''soft money'' spending rule.

Were these FEC lawyers hired by the Clinton administration? Can they be fired or overruled by the Executive Branch? The Democrats made decisions not to fundraise; they must then be willing to suffer the consequences of their actions.

The RNC is so out of touch. They should be making a big public issue of this.

I read this three times and I'm still stunned.

I wonder what McCain and Feingold think of this.

Democrats, arguing their finances have been hit hard by slow fund raising after the terrorist attacks, are getting a sympathetic ear from the Federal Election Commission's lawyers

I see. Their point of view loses credibility and thus their party loses capital. Sounds like the free market at work to me.. Should be no suprise that they now don't want to live by the rules they imposed on everyone else. How Clintonian.

The DNC says it canceled or postponed at least eight fund-raisers in the three weeks after the attacks, depriving it of an anticipated $1.65 million.

The RNC cancelled fundraisers too. This is insane.

Who controls the FEC?

From Political Money Line:

Surprise Nomination To FEC

(Does Darryl know yet?)
Michael E. Toner, Chief Counsel to the
Republican National Committee and
former General Counsel to the Transition
Team for President George W. Bush and
former General Counsel for the Bush for
President campaign, is about to be nominated
to replace Darryl Wold as one of six
commissioners at the FEC. Word has it that
Mr. Wold was enjoying his stay at the FEC.

I am stunned... Republicans don;t have the advantage of the illegal giving by unions. Might we now expect some consideration be given to "sharing" the funds? After all, we all want to be fair. Is there NOTHING liberals haven't diseased?

Can somebody tell me of what use is the FEC? I have wondered this for years as Democrats received little if any sanction for illegal contributions.
We need to get rid of campaign finance laws altogether. The only one that should be used is that the parties would have to publish the donors on the Internet within 24 hours of receipt.

Have they taken into consideration the thought that maybe the American citizens don't want to contribute to the democrap party after what they've learned about the clintoon administration?
Why should the FEC show them favoritism when even the voters won't??
If the support isn't there, it just isn't there.
Anyone know of a FEC e-mail address where we can voice our objections to showing party line favoritism?

Tough times in political fund-raising are NOT an excuse for violating the law. I've dealt with some of the FEC lawyers over the years. They are, in large measure, partisan hacks who are dumb as a bag of hammers. But even given that, they should know that they don't have the right to ignore direct violations of the FEC law -- because the violators REALLY need the money.

Heck, Bonnie & Clyde could have mounted the same defense. "We don't have much money. The banks have lots of money. Therefore, don't prosecute us for liberating some of that money for ourselves."

Yet another signal that Bush is moving TOO SLOWLY to fire all the clintonoids. Does anyone imagine that clinton waited for 11 months before he fired all the Republicans from his administration? Or that he cared whether or not he had replacements in line for them?

So what if the Senate is blocking appointments? Bush still has to fire these partisan slimebags, and do it now. They are all over the State Department, the Defense Department, the FBI, the INS, the judiciary, the US Attorney's Offices, and virtually everywhere else. It's intolerable, and he certainly isn't drawing a whole lot of praise from the media for his restraint or nonpartisanship or whatever you want to call it.

It's probably his single worst mistake, leaving all these political saboteurs in place.

Was there something about 9-11 unique to the DNC? I think there’re inability to raise money just now has more to do with a backlash to klinton and the gore debacle.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!

Here's the proper answer, FEC:

NO, NO, AND NO.

Who the hell do these people think they are??? You know what? I've had a rough time 'cause of the ECONOMY, Democrats...HOW ABOUT KEEPING A LITTLE LESS OF MY HARD EARNED INCOME??

This same LAME party (one I used to support!) wants MORE time to get MORE money, but their Congressional leadership (Dash-hole, et al) are DRAGGING THEIR FEET when it comes to TAX RELIEF FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!!!

I am SO glad to be a
Recovering Democrat.
