Laura Bush seems to be coming into her own as first lady -- especially in contrast to her predecessor.
Not only does a new poll show her outshining Hillary Clinton, but in little noticed remarks last week, the demure Texan actually made fun of Mrs. Clinton's megabucks book deal.
Addressing the National Press Club about the fears she'd experienced since Sept. 11, Mrs. Bush took time out for some comic relief with this answer to a question about whether she intended to write a book about her experience.
"I guess it'll be whether or not I can get that $8 million advance." The audience roared with laughter.
The rest of America also seems to appreciate the new first lady's light touch after Hillary's eight years of power grabbing and money grubbing.
56 percent of those surveyed told a Fox News Dynamics poll that Bush fits the image of what a first lady should be. Only 26 percent said Hillary lived up to their ideal.
And in more bad news for Sen. Clinton, the Fox survey shows her favorability rating actually going down in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. Though she's been on TV more often than ever before, touting her efforts to help New York City recover, her favorability rating has slid to just 44 percent.
That's a twelve point decline from Mrs. Clinton's January high of 56 percent.

I loved the Hillary zing! I'm sure Laura's mother-in-law beamed with pride on that comment as well. The more I see and hear of Laura, the more I respect her. There is NO comparing her with that Marxist, egomaniacal predecessor of hers.

Hey, what percentage of FReepers think LB is living up to the image of the ideal First Lady? (FREEP THIS POLL--LOL! bet we end up with 112% or something due to multiple voting!)

I'm an American and proud of my first lady. After 8 years.
To: MeeknMing
Yes, bless her. Having her as First Lady is a gift. As for the previous:
That's a twelve point decline from Mrs. Clinton's January high of 56 percent.
Seeing her popularity decline to zero would be another gift to this country.

Agreed! A REAL woman, dedicated and honest.
Someone once asked Juliette Prowse how to succeed in show business.
Her answer was, "Think like a man, work like a dog, and act like a lady."

It's the democrats fault Laura's in the White House.
ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, and FOX gave the election to Bush.
When the networks called the race early in Florida, the democrats quit double punching ballots.
Democrats didn't invalidate enough Bush votes to steal the election. The liberals made Laura our first lady...

Just like her hubby, she is very real and sincere. I'm so proud of them both and have written and told them so. God shown his favor on our USA when GW won the election.

the Fox survey shows her favorability rating actually going down in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. And since the Klintoons always watch polls and surveys, this is known to Hildebeast. tee hee.
Mrs. Bush is the first First Lady to deliver an entire Presidential Radio Address.
And she is seething, I'm sure, over this. Gee, seems like Bubba and Hildebeast's have both found their legacies: utter failures and complete incompetence.

Dangies...that makes Hillary only 1 percent more "favorable" than the media at 43 percent.

I LOVE the adorable and classy First Lady Laura Bush!
I jumped for joy when I heard of her Radio Address and Campaighn for Afghan Womens Rights. Way to GO Laura!
The true beauty is that she will actually DO something to help people. And I know she will do it from her heart, just like President Bush is :) :) :)
