SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The financially troubled San Francisco Unified School District, looking to mend its image after years of mismanaging funds, likely will appeal to voters for additional money for campus safety upgrades and other construction projects.
It may be a hard sell for a district that has received more than $300 million over the past 12 years while several campuses remain in a state of disrepair. San Francisco schools chief Arlene Ackerman, hired last year, says she's merely picking up the pieces of a broken system she inherited.

I volunteer the Superintendent and School Board from Beavercreek, Ohio to show them how to really mismanage funds.

The response of the voters should be, "Not another d*mned dime until we find out what happened to the $300 millio, and the people behind the losses are in jail." This is not a situation in which the proper response is "Opps. Sorry about that. Can you spare another $300 million for a cup of coffee?" Congressman Billybob

I didn't want to start a new thread for this so I'll put it here. I'm in San Francisco and I just saw a commercial for the city promoting itself. One of the things it boasted about was that SF spends $40,000 per year per homeless person. Yes, that's right, they BOASTED about this. What I'm seeing in the city is scores of vagrants pissing all over the streets, begging at every stoplight, and sleeping in every other door way. It's rather despicable. They could've just written a check for $40K to each homeless person and they'd be living in style. Where in the hell are they spending this money and can't they recognize the absurdity in boasting about spending that much per person on a problem that has obviously not improved.
