Chelsea joins the hecklers at peace rally
The Times (U.K.) ^ | 11/10/2001 | GLEN OWEN

CHELSEA CLINTON was among a group of American students which disrupted an anti-war meeting in Oxford, it was revealed last night.

Frustrated at anti-American feeling, the daughter of the former President arrived at the 500-strong meeting in Oxford Town Hall with a dozen friends who heckled speakers.

Miss Clinton, a postgraduate student in international relations at University College, Oxford, her father’s alma mater, has confessed that she is feeling isolated and threatened by the mood she has detected at the university. She found it difficult encountering “anti-American feeling” from peace demonstrators.

As soon as last Thursday’s meeting, organised by the Oxford Stop the War Coalition, began, members of her mostly American group shouted patriotic slogans from the back. Speakers were prevented from continuing after other young Americans approached them and unfurled a Stars and Stripes flag.

Chris Harman, editor of the Socialist Worker, said: “When the group turned up I thought, oh no, we’re going to have some rugby-type fracas, but luckily it was nothing like that.” The flag-bearers were eventually sent back to their seats by a 76-year-old American woman called Barbara, an Oxford resident.

Katy Beinart, a student CND member who spoke at the meeting, said that Miss Clinton had arrived “making a lot of noise”.

When John Haylett, editor of the Morning Star, began to argue that the media had failed to consider the effects of the bombing on Afghan civilians, Miss Clinton and her friends called out that he should remember the victims of the terrorist attacks on New York. Mr Haylett responded that such meetings were the only way to put an alternative viewpoint to that portrayed in the media.

Miss Clinton left with her Secret Service bodyguards shortly afterwards, stopping to buy a copy of the Morning Star from a vendor, and making “yet more noise”, according to Ms Beinart. “It was a shame that Chelsea Clinton felt the need to interrupt a peaceful discussion with what I felt were inappropriate comments,” she said.

Speakers at the meeting, including the MP Jeremy Corbyn, said yesterday that Miss Clinton took their comments too personally.

Good for her. Since her Dad is an icon among the "fashionable" Left in England, Chelsea puts them in a very awkward position by committing this act. It was a brave and decent thing to do.

Of course! It would be a perfect chance to review how eeeeeevil and racist Amerika really is!

Then they would sacrifice a 5 year old virgin, eat her brains, and smear the blood all over themselves and pray to satan...

After a few more years surrounded by well-spoken left wing hosebags, after hearing her country belittled and reviled at every turn, she just may well become a fire-breathing patriot. Give her time. There's nothing on Earth more irritating than upper class English marxists. She could very well join the GOP by the time she's thirty.

Wouldn't that be a nightmare, lol. I am not trying to be anyone else's conscience here, but I have been a mentor in the not to distant past and I have a real soft heart for young people, it's very fulfilling to stablize a troubled teen and take a brick out of that wall they have built in front of them and show them that there is a good future out there, one that actually does have moments of happiness.

check out the link by WooHoo on post #15. I gather that's the thread that details her hatred of the military. Sorry, I'm not cutting her any slack anymore.

I read that article, and it seemed consistent with what she said in this article.

As for her "hatred of the military," I didn't see anything in that entire thread that outlined anything in particular. There were a few vague hearsay comments about her supposedly calling the Secret Service "trained pigs," but no substantiation or citations.

Regardless, even if she held anti-military views before, I can buy that she's changed her tune after the horrific acts of September 11. I can buy it, because something similar happened to me. I never would have called myself "anti-military," but I was definitely closer to the "peace lover" type than not.

September 11 proved me wrong, and I admit that freely.

I understand, a large percentage of the time it turns out just like you say, but there is always that little "Wild Card". So we can hope for all our children, even though our school system has trashed their self image of what it means to be Americans.

Y'know, I saw this story posted at DU and so I joined so I could voice my support, especially since none of the other forum members had yet voiced their opinions on the topic.

But after only two posts, they banned me! I really don't think they take well to optimism and glad tidings over there.

If I didn't have a hot date with Laura Croft tonight, my spirits would just be crushed.

How else should their anti-American comments be taken?

Yeah, perhaps the WTC bombing was Chelsea's "Road to Damascus." Who can know, but time will tell.

I'll give her credit, if this report is true. I have no reason to think it isn't. I happen to believe that Chelsea is the sanest of the family, and the attacks on her (in the past) were unwarranted.

Kudos to her..

Now, if this is not a true story, then Cuck Flintons!

Hey, wouldn't it be cool if Chelsea turned out to be normal, hetero, and patriotic? I know I'm just daydreaming, but....

Good grief, who taught her patriotism? Surely, not Mama Hitlery nor Papa Bubba Peccadillos since those two wouldn't know the meaning of the word and proved they didn't know the word. I wonder if she received a transatlantic scolding from those two telling her that she's standing on the wrong platform.
