I would hope, if necessary, I would be willing to lay down my life to lift up Christ.
To: svcw
I would, but she's already married to Tim McGraw.

Already posted, FWIW. Where? Your link only points back to this thread. The FR search function apparently is broken, as it comes up empty-handed when I searched for both source and author.

Well, I read about half of it but then it became too absurd.
Faith be damned... Would you die for what's right? There's a difference.
To: r9etb
Would you "convert" to Islam, or die a Christian?Temporary death or eternal death. You choose.
To: Romulus
No, I believe there have been plenty of martyrs; far, far too many martyrs. My point is that modern Brits don't have much of a choice, having been disarmed by their own government. I *do* have a choice, and my choice would be to resist to my last breath.
To be, or not to be, that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them.

Darling Katie--
It all depends on what the definition of "die for your faith" is. Would I be willing to die defending myself and my faith if, say, the president ordered the US military to go door-to-door throughout the US, arresting all Catholics? Yes. Would I be willing to die because the pastor of the South Bumblefart Catholic Church lost his marbles and starting ordering his congregation to launch suicide bomb attacks on the Presbyterians down the street? No.
Your sainted Muslims are doing the latter, not the former.

No, I would never bow to a false God and Satan. I would die rather than deny Christ, I am His.

My point is that modern Brits don't have much of a choice,... Congratulations on missing the point completely. Of course modern Brits have a choice! Everyone has a choice! That's what martyrdom is all about.
Your point is that you reject the choice, in favor of something else.

Die for a faith, no. Die for my country the U.S.A.? Yes a thousand times yes and if I could a thousand times over.

Plenty of chest-beating and self-congratulation on this thread. Not a lot of folks are reading past the headline, I fear.

Once a Christian always a Christian; I could no more lose my salvation than I could give it back to the One who gave it to me. Peter disagrees with you. In 2 Peter 2:20-21, speaking of the early members of the church, he states:
- For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
- For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
According to Peter, there is no "once saved, always saved", because he acknowledges the idea that one can "turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them".

I've been asking myself those questions, and while it's easy to say I'd die.
It is easy to say.....you are correct in that.
It would probably be more the pain of death that I would most be apprehensive about..............after all, who wants to feel a sword rammed through their guts?
Once you got past that, well.........
To: Romulus
It is one thing to die for your faith, another to commit suicide for it.
To: Romulus
Oops, my mistake. I think the thread is
here.
I got it by searching for "would".

I love him too. Sometimes I can still catch the re-runs of his programs. I had no idea until recently that he passed until I saw the end of a program and notice of his death ran across the screen before the credits. Another angel in heaven. He seemed so sweet and I love his programs.
