Peter disagrees with you. In 2 Peter 2:20-21, speaking of the early members of the church, he states:
According to Peter, there is no "once saved, always saved", because he acknowledges the idea that one can "turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them".
Spreading mormon lies I see. The verse you quote is talking about self washed persons who have not been washed by the Holy Spirit. They were never saved. Peter most definitely affirms that once God has saved a saint, that they will be preserved forever:
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you and peace be multiplied. For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not His saints; they are preserved for ever, but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Thanks, Cubicle Guy.
I have always wondered about the "once saved, always saved" concept. Seemed illogical that people who professed a belief in Christ would go to heaven regardless of what they did afterward (Bill and Hillary come to mind) while righteous people who never even heard of the Bible (good Buddhists, Hindus, etc.) would be condemned to hell.
From these verses (2 Peter 2:20-21), it sounds like one is better off not hearing "the word" than hearing it and rebelling against it.
II Peter 2:1-22 talks about the Rise of False Prophets and the Danger of False Teachings, and does NOT say that a true believer of Christ can lose his or her salvation.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
That is a free gift offered to me, and if I repent (change my mind), believe and accept that gift, it is mine FOREVER!
I am saved as much today as I was on April 21, 1967. And that will continue for all eternity.
John 3:16 promises that.
