[history]
Like Britain in 1939, we're at war but not yet in it.
That was an interesting speech President Bush gave last night in Georgia. Its subject was homeland security, and in terms of content, style and tone it seemed to be, essentially, nothing new. And yet by the end and after reading it, I thought: He's telling us a great deal here.

Let's hope she's rightThat's a hard thing to say...considering all that she said. She paints a bleak picture of great trials ahead.
And great trials are difficult at first when you are out of shape. It's a little like a terribly fat and lazy person discovering that 100 pounds better come off, muscle tone better improve and...oh yeah, you better lay off that beer for a good long time.
Perhaps the reason that the war appears "phony" and we seem to be moving slowly is merely the results of more than 8 years getting out of shape.

A solid speech by President Bush tonight and another good essay from darling Peggy Noonan.
Too bad CBS and NBC saw it differently. It was an outrage for these two national broadcast outlets not to carry the speech. Unacceptable.

President Bush definitely has a vision, anyone who have witnessed what these terrorist have been doing for the past 30 years can easily come to the conclusion that if we don't rise up and destroy these radical fundamentalist in the Muslim world, we will be destroyed by them. I thank God we have this man of vision, and not some political hack who cant see the forest from the tree's.
George W. Bush has been underestimated and that is a good thing, because the mainstream media can not see past their hatred and their Socialist agenda to understand the fact that George W. Bush has a good grasp of the situation we face and he has a long range plan to protect us from what is inevitable if we keep our heads buried in the sand. Just look how much attention George W. Bush has paid to a National Missile Defense system; he can see the writing on the wall. Only a fool would face the 21st century with blinders on, the liberal left would love nothing more than to ignore the threat of a rogue nation launching a weapon of mass destruction that kills millions of us.
History has proven that liberals open the door for an unprovoked attack, but in the 21st century the attack could be the end of our existence. Thank God we have this man of vision and we must support this effort to rid the world of terrorist before it is too late.

Could not agree more. I don't think the war needs last as long as she does. It all depends on how ruthless we are willing to be. It's the only thing an islameist understands and the more thoroughly we trounce them the quicker many of them will give up their hellbent aspirations and be good little muslims again.

A number of columnists, in these perilous times, have produced a whole dang bunch of good writing. Some excellent writing. The best in years, decades.
But our Miss Peggy is the tops. Lyrical and insightful her work has the clear chime of fine crystal. .
I am in awe. I am in love.

It was an outrage for these two national broadcast outlets not to carry the speech. Unacceptable.Absolutely despicable decision -- especially since the nation is at war, RM.
If it were X42, they would have bent over backwards to carry it, then drool over it with fawning praise for hours afterward.

Bump for an excellent read. I mean EXCELLENT. Hi my friends, I wanted to make sure you saw this.

If you see something by Peggy Noonan, its generally a good idea to read it. If you see her on a talking face show, she is the best face to watch too Agreed!
What a gracious and honest person she is, and obviously very intuitive. It is always refreshing to read an article from her. She is a rare gem, IMO.
