Let's Restore Medina to the Jews

In 627 the Meccans sent a united force to lay siege to the Muslims in Medina, but they withdrew suddenly on a stormy night without fighting. However, guided by the angel Gabriel, Muhammad then turned his host against the Jewish tribe of the Qurayza who had been neutral during the seige. Because the Jews refused conversion, Muhammad attacked and overwhelmed them. Trenches were then dug in the marketplace of Medina, and the Jews - six to nine hundred of them, according to traditional Muslim sources - were led forth in batches and decapitated. All the menfolk perished in this way, with the exception of one convert to Islam. The Prophet then divided the women, children, houses, and chattels among the Muslims.[footnote]

After a siege lasting month and a half, the inhabitants surrendered under the terms of a treaty known as the dhimma. According to the agreement Muhammad allowed the Jews to continue cultivating their oasis, on the condition that they ceded to him half of their produce; he also reserved the right to break the agreement and expel them whenever he wished.[footnote] Subsequently, all the Jewish and Christian communities of Arabia submitted to the Muslims under the terms of a dhimma similar to that granted at Khaybar. ...

Well, you've all made a great mistake then. My understanding is that five of the nineteen who took over the 9/11 planes were Egyptians. There was no outpouring of support for us by all of you who abhor violence. At best you "stood idly by" (to paraphrase Leviticus 19:16). You may hate violence, but it doesn't take much to get a mob about to shout "Death to Israel" (or even Death to Sadat).

Mohammed wasn't a caravan high-jacker. Where did you get such a silly notion? He was first a shepard and then a caravan master.

Traditional Islamic sources depict Mohammed as a caravan raider before he became a prophet. The authenticity of these depictions really doesn't matter though, because orthodox Muslims throughout history have believed in these traditional accounts of Mohammed's preaching and behavior, in which he is invariably the initiator of brutal and vicicous attacks.

Yes the Hadith about Jihad is all right but it was told in specific occasions were Muslims were being threatened every day by enemies everywhere. Those Hadith can not be applied now because there is no state of war between the western world and Islam.

Another important point is that Muslims themselves take the Koran to have universal validity. They often apply scriptural verses to contemporary events, and they have done this throughout their history. Therefore, they undercut their own efforts to insist that those verses must be taken in 'context' and applied to specific events in the life of the prophet. Mohammed may have been fighting against particular groups of 'pagans' and 'unbelievers', but this was generalized to all pagans and unbelievers during the course of Islamic history, starting right after Mohammed's conquest of Arabia, when the prophet's successors swept through the Middle East.
