Gore, like Clinton, will leave military vulnerable to terrorists (The Writing Was On The Wall)
The Canton Repository (Canton, Ohio) ^ | October 24, 2000 | Ron Johnson, Letter to the Editor

LETTER

I’ve supported my union, Steelworkers Local 1123, for 28 years. I’m proud to be a union worker, but more important, I am proud to be an American and proud to have served my country in the U.S. Marine Corps (1968-73). This year, I won’t vote with my union because I cannot support Al Gore for president.

Gore shamelessly pandered to unions when he proclaimed that his mother sang, “Look for the Union Label” jingle as his lullaby. Gore cannot possibly support unions, while being against a vital element of production; Gore writes in “Earth in the Balance,” “The internal combustion engine is posing a mortal threat to the security of every nation, more deadly than that of any military enemy that we are ever again likely to confront.”

Maybe this explains why the Clinton-Gore administration has decided to deplete American’s military power and effectiveness. They believe the real threat to national security is the internal combustion engine, not another country.

While vacationing in Virginia, our family visited a naval base where I was stationed as a Marine MP.

I was shocked to discover that there were no security gates, no guards and no visible patrols on the base. We toured the base, including “Admiral’s Row,” the docks, and we walked up to the ships without being stopped. Lack of security on military bases is an invitation to terrorism.

Clinton and Gore have more security than entire military bases; Clinton and Gore enjoy 24-hour security on the campaign-fund-raising trail, while our children in the military are attacked, wounded, and murdered because of lack of security.

But Gore won’t worry — none of his children will ever serve in the military.

I will vote for Bush-Cheney because they promise to strengthen our military, which has been weakened during the present administration.

RON JOHNSON

Almost a year ago, my husband wrote this letter to the Editor of our local newspaper. My husband is just an average guy, yet he saw the writing on the wall; in his opinion, terrorist attacks were being invited by the Clinton administration.

I wonder, did Clinton see the writing on the wall, too?

Bottom-line:

THANK GOD GORE IS NOT OUR PRESIDENT!

Never forget...GORE thought that "the internal combustion engine is posing a mortal threat to the security of every nation, more deadly than that of any military enemy that we are ever again likely to confront.”

Ugh!

I once was at National Guards airshow, and I walked out the airshow and went looking at the F16s sitting on the operations tarmac. I waved to a pilot who was taxiing to the runway for a training mission. ANd then someone popped out a window, whistled at me and told me to go away. There was zero security for million dollar machines that were operating there.

I am throughly convinced that those of us that went to protest at the West Palm operations center for the recount of ballots for the office of U.S. President saved the world from evil by making sure that G.W.Bush was elected. I can't in my most wild dreams imagine if algore had stolen the election. What a mute. What a puke. What a transparent nothing albore is was and will always be. Thank GOD for G.W. Bush and my GOD bless the U.S. of A.

My husband and I were shocked by the lack of security on the bases in Virginia. I grew-up as a Navy brat and there were always guards at the gates and MPs driving around...while in Virginia (summer of 1999)...we saw ZERO to only minimal security on the bases we visited.

Thank God for those who were involved in that protest. Thanks!

I went to Fayetteville in 1996, and decided I would go see Ft. Bragg. I drove all over looking for it and a gate. I couldn't find it. It wasn't till I took one of the exits off the 4 lane highway and accidentally found th PX that I realized I had been driving all over it and didn't even know it.

LOL!

Were you able to shop in the PX without an I.D. card?

Your husband's observations are absolutely correct. I worked as a civilian at a naval base from 1983-1998. When I began working, gates were guarded by armed Marines and ID checks and random car searches were the norm. There was no getting near the piers without being checked and photos were not allowed. Next, during the clinton administration were base police, never checking a thing and then sometimes no guard at all. You could walk around freely on the piers and look at the submarines all you wanted. As late as last fall, I frequently took my son to see the ships and tugs and no one ever asked what I was doing.

There was a big push to open up the base to everyone and civvies were encouraged to get on board. I raised so much hell about it that I was finally told to sit down and shut up. Many people, military and civilian alike were horrified that this was happening but the higher-ups, clinton cronies I'm sure, thought this was a great idea.

Yeah, looks like a great idea in retrospect, doesn't it. What clinton did to our military is criminal if not treasonous.

BTW, the base is guarded not, just the way it should have ALWAYS been.

Very perceptive letter. I applaud your husband's efforts in assisting President Bush's campaign.

My husband is a working stiff and recently had a call at a nearby major military installation. His work truck was stopped at the gate and searched. Because he is an avid hunter, the cab of his truck contains a gun for any occasion. When I asked what they said about his guns, he replied 'they only searched the tool boxes and rear of the truck, never the cab.' I was shocked!

I agree completely. Like I asked, if my husband saw the writing on the wall...did Clinton? I think the answer is - of course he knew the military/USA was sending out an open invitation to terrorism.

BTW, the base is guarded now, just the way it should have ALWAYS been.

Good to know, thanks.

The entire clinton admisistration had no use for the military. That has proven obvious over the last month. Thank God we have a strong President finally and one who is interested in our country's security. Too bad 911 had to happen in order for the libs to see what we've known all along (or at least I hope they see who knows).

Hey you...

Did you ever find out about the plastic surgery for, Chelsea? :-)

Here is a little story about my "Devil Dog"...

My husband's oldest son was also a Marine, on a visit home last year, his son took his dad to lunch.

When they returned...my husband had a tattoo of the "Devil Dog" on his upper arm with the letters "USMC" under it.

My husband thought if he could make me laugh...I wouldn't faint at the sight of the tattoo. So he pulled-up his sleeve and said, "Look Hon, I got a tattoo of YOU on my arm! Damn, they spelled your name wrong!" (as he pointed to the letters, USMC)

I agree. But what about the Republicans who were in office during the Clinton years...did they see how vulnerable our country was to terrorism? I wonder what they did to try to FIX it, if anything?
