PHOTOS OF THE ANTHRAX LETTERS
Yahoo ^ | October 16, 2001 | FBI

Reuters Photo
The FBI released this photo on October 16, 2001 showing the letters that were sent to NBC in New York and to Sen. Tom Daschle's office on Capitol Hill and were found to contain the anthrax bacteria. Anthrax was confirmed in the letter opened on October 15 in Daschle's office, but so far none of the staff in that office has tested positive for exposure to the potentially deadly bacteria, Capitol police said. It's cheap (that's why I have it LOL!) and it is plain paper ... so maybe, just maybe ... the perps didn't think about what kind of device they were using to make a copy!

I’m currently working on the theory that Arabs were not involved and the perp was only one person, an academic type who was worried that the government and media weren’t doing enough to prepare for biowarfare. I think he’s a “liberal” academic type.

I'm anxious to see the indicators you find for that theory! Certainly some of the left extremists have a violent history.

Correct. I'm a lefty, I slant downward without guide rules. Someone also suggested someone used to writing right to left might do the same. Arabic is written rtl

Consider this:

The terrorists wanted to send letters to some important politicians.

They bought the New York Times one day and made a note
of the Senators and Congressmen listed in the front page stories.

Works for me.

(By the way, there still are tons of unopened mail on Capitol Hill.)

I can’t figure out why he chose the two Senators. Maybe he just liked them when he saw them on TV, or maybe he met them in the past. I think this guy is an academic type who might have worked on studying the threat of biowarfare. Maybe he worked for the government in the past on bio-agents. I think he sent the anthrax as a warning to get our attention. The guy might think he did us a favor..... and maybe he did.

He mentioned the agent (anthrax) in the Daschle letter, and the traditional treatment (penicillin) in the Brokaw and NY Post letters. I don’t think he was trying to kill anyone. Arab terrorists would have sent out letters with anthrax but no warning. They would have wanted people to die. This guy’s an American. This guy’s not a “right winger” or a “leftist revolutionary”. He’s an academic or medical type. My opinion now is that his letters were a warning to us all to be prepared for biowarfare.

Arabic is written rtl.

Much more important. Arabic letters are formed from bottom to top.

Look at the E in the New York Post letter.
Clearly it was formed from bottom to top.
No native ever would write an E in that manner.

Think it is worth calling to the attention of the FBI? If I were paid to do this I might try to narrow my search and subpoena records from those dates from the servers I thought the addresses may have come from.

If they can determine where the Brokaw address came from (which I haven't looked into - assumed it was gotten from the official abc news website), I might try to find a commonality as to who accessed those two websites in the appropriate timeframe, but first I would need to ascertain where else the addresses may have been listed in that exact manner.

But I'm not getting paid lots of bucks per hour, nor are you! :-)

Also, a librarian could have helped come up with the addresses. Or some other source entirely. But now I definitely lean toward the theory that someone copied them right off a computer screen by hand.

Maybe there are other letters in the system which might yield more clues.

I'm really, really curious why Daschle and Leahy were chosen. Arbitrarily? Perhaps.

Those two are the worst Clymers in the Senate. Maybe that's why they were chosen.

I'm confident the FBI monitors political forums and believe they may be following this thread even now. However, to be on the safe side, you might want to send them an email.

On the Leahy/Daschle/Brokaw connection - our best bet so far is that it is issue+authority related. Leahy and Daschle both are for the International Criminal Court and NBC has commentary to that leaning. An ICC would be unfavorable to international terrorism IMHO.

What is missing here is the American Media letter in Florida. Evidently that one was thrown away. Do you have any idea about a possible mailing date on it?

To me, they don't look like the same person wrote them. The top one has tall, skinny printing and the bottom one has short, fat printing.

Tony, lol! You guys are funny. I don't harbor resentment towards most politicians, generally speaking. I wouldn't know what Clymers were if I hadn't been here awhile ;-).

Alamo-Girl, I will sleep on it. I'm certain they monitor discussions on the internet but you know how things slip through their fingers, figuratively speaking :-). Especially emails.

I was kind of hoping you might submit your thread to someone in authority or call their attention to it. I can call our local office Monday if I still think it -could- be important.

Take a look at this...

Trie’s Deadly Deals

By Douglas Burton
burton@insightmag.com

It is the revelation about the estimated $1 million sale of dual-use medical technology to China, however, and the involvement of a respected U.S. government scientist in a company Trie used to facilitate the sale, that most deeply has shocked federal investigators and national-security officials contacted by Insight.

Peter Leitner, a senior Defense Department licensing analyst who specializes in export controls of dual-use technology, has reviewed Insight’s copies of the confidential FBI interviews with Trie. Leitner says the transfer of the highly sophisticated pharmaceutical-grade fermenting machine poses significant risks to U.S. security at home and abroad if used to make advanced germ-warfare products such as anthrax and botulism.

The evidence of the fermenting machine’s sale and transfer sometime in 1993 to the Changchun Biological Products Institute is alarming, according to Leitner, given that the Chinese facility has been flagged by some experts as a biological-weapons laboratory run by the People’s Liberation Army. Leitner tells Insight: “This whole affair has the classic earmarks of a Chinese military-intelligence operation.”

Any NEWS organization out there care to ask Hillary Clinton about this? Does anyone know Douglas Burton at Insight?

Now this is what made us all start thinking of Arab perps in the first place.......

ATTA IN FLORIDA

But I have seen some extreme coincidences in the news business before. Like that airplane that crashed in the very neighborhood of some of the firemen who were victims of the WTC collapse, with two victims being on the airplane who had actually survived the WTC disaster. Strange coincidences do occur, and sometimes they occur in groups of several, as if someone is playing around with our “fate”. Some investigators call this “synchronicity”. We need to be careful to try to separate the coincidences from conspiracies, and sometimes there can be two or three similar conspiracies going on, involving different groups of people who don’t even know each other. I just don’t think the Arab terrorists would have been polite enough to warn the people those DC and NY letters were sent too. A few more letters with no warning inside could have killed many more people.

Sadly, the AMI letter was evidently incinerated. The only thing we know is that the inhalation anthrax cases in D.C. appear to have developed within two weeks of exposure.

Thank you so much for the link and your views!

If their intention were to kill people, they blew it for the reasons you stated. If their intention were to create terror, they sent it to the right people with much success.

Democrats are wary of the political risks that would come with letting Clinton off without some formal punishment. Senate Democratic aides said Minority Leader Tom Daschle, a South Dakota Democrat, has been discussing the matter with colleagues, and that Senators Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Tom Harkin of Iowa, John Breaux of Louisiana and Torricelli are among those most likely to offer the measure.
