I presume you haven't caught up with the posts from yesterday....An example of the "flippancy" was evidenced beautifully by someone here yesterday. But aside from that, various sins have different levels of punishment (according to catholicism, that is) and pennance assigned by your church, and the punishment for venial sins is NOT eternal. But God's word says that "the wages of sin is death." He doesn't differentiate between light sins and mortal sins....all sin ULTIMATELY leads to death, unless repented of and forgiven by God.

Came across something that I think could ALMOST:) be inspired. A 1st grade teacher took some proverbs and gave her class half of it and told them to finish it, the results are wonderful. I know it is off topic, but so is football:)

You would have to ask the inspired writer of those words. Maybe they didn't have a priest as of yet. That would be much, much later.

Of course, this is misdirection. The question is: Was Pope Honorius I condemmed as a heretic by an Ecumenical Council?

Well they do have magic powers if they can pray for you after they are dead. The story of the rich man shows that the dead can do nothing for the living.

I caught up as best I could ... probably missed some here and there. I saw many examples of "flippancy." ;o)

There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. 17. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.

So when that Catholic yesterday took the Lord's name in vain, that means that he warrants death if he does not repent of it, correct?

Now what if he was a "saved" Christian who in the heat of the moment took the Lord's name in vain? He still needs to repent, right?

OK, let's say this same "saved" Christian is mad and talking on the phone. He yells out the Lord's name in vain and BANG! is hit by a bus and dies. What happens to him? He dies without repenting his sin. The wages of sin is death.

Havoc always beats into me the need for a true Christian to avoid sin. Well here we have an otherwise good Christian man who happens to die with unrepented sin. What happens to him?

The story of the rich man shows that the dead can not go back and warn the living. It says nothing about not being able to pray, especially to pray for others' needs.

You are saying either that those in heaven can not pray, or those in heaven do not care about other, earthly, Christians.

You go back and see who was throwing the stink bombs! I believe it was Conservative til I die, a catholic. I told my husband I had not seen such hatefulness since workerbee left, another catholic. So yes us "Proddies" (How I hate that term, no smiley face after this remark) were defending our beliefs but it was the catholics lobbing the stink bombs.

It's working so far because they used their two pitching aces. Johnson's out of the New York series -- they shot their load by having him pitch a complete game last night. And Schilling out of rotation in Game 4 with 3 days' rest and no backup (you realize we're going to see the entire pitching staff sans Schilling and Johnson in Game 3, don't you)? I don't think so.

"nobdysfool" wasn't exactly being nice either. I'll admit our guy was out of line. "nobdysfool" stepped up to the plate an delivered a huge pile of manure, the likes of which we have been discussing for ages. To even think that his recycled hash was worthy of response was his biggest sin.

I must say, I was quite shocked with Conservative's demeanor. I don't like to see that kind of disrespect here. We should have moved far beyond these tactics by now ... that goes for boths sides of the fence.

Translated: The Bible, as interpreted by men who have rejected the authority of the Church hiearchy, is the sole rule of faith and nothing not explicitly stated in the Bible is the word of God. The problem I see is that nothing in the New Testament explicitly says this.

Robby, it's there. Look for it. I'm not leading you to it; if you REALLY want to know the truth about it, read God's word. If you prefer to remain warm and secure in the arms of your church, then don't bother looking. Just repeat what they say and think what they tell you to think. But you will be edified if you prayerfuly seek to know the unadulterated truth from the holy scriptures. God bless you.
